The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Johns Hopkins University ( http://pbs.jhu.edu ) seeks to hire two individuals for the rank of full-time Junior Lecturer. The Junior Lecturers will contribute to the department’s educational mission by serving as professional teaching assistants (TA) for courses taught by faculty. The Junior Lecturers will not be responsible for developing or teaching courses on their own but instead will provide support to existing courses. Duties will likely include grading, managing online course materials, assisting with course organization, leading smaller course discussion sections, and supporting student learning in office hours. The anticipated course load is eight undergraduate courses during the academic year (four per semester). The courses will include a variety of introductory and upper-level psychology courses with a likely focus on courses in clinical and applied psychology, social and personality psychology, and/or research methods and statistics.

Qualifications

While a Master’s degree is preferred, we will also consider candidates holding a Bachelor's degree who have exceptionally strong coursework and research experience. Detailed qualifications include:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field
  • One year of experience teaching at the undergraduate level (may substitute TA or other teaching experience)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Established record of teaching excellence
  • At least one year of teaching experience
  • Graduate-level coursework in psychology or a related field; coursework in statistics and research methods is especially desirable.
  • Master's or doctoral degree in Psychology or a related discipline.
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to relay information clearly and professionally among faculty, staff, and students
  • Exhibits professional behavior that will promote positive interactions between faculty, staff, and students
  • Strong organizational, administrative, project management, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous and confidential situations
  • Ability to work proactively and independently
  • Proven ability to assess priorities, balance competing responsibilities, and respond quickly to changing needs

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
