Description

Program Director, Pediatrics Residency at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital

The Pediatric Residency Program (PRP) is the core graduate medical education program at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and welcomed its first class of residents in July 2014. The PRP prioritizes educationally-driven, individualized clinical training and incorporates innovative curricula focused on leadership, scholarship, quality and safety, advocacy and individualized medicine. The primary responsibility of the Program Director will be to lead the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Pediatric Residency Program. In addition, the Program Director serves as a vital ally to our institution’s academic mission and continued innovation and growth within the graduate medical educational programs. The Program Director supports and partners with institutional, educational and community stakeholders to create a learning environment that promotes growth and development of pediatric residents.

The PRP is led by the Program Director, in collaboration with Associate/Assistant Program Directors, Program Coordinators, chief residents and core faculty. The PRP is supported by the Office of Medical Education and Vice Dean’s Office, with oversight and collaboration with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Vice Dean, and the Associate Deans for Administration and Research. The PD reports to the DIO and Vice Dean. The PD will be a board-certified pediatrician with a record of academic scholarship and hold a faculty appointment with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Serves as a role model of excellence, professionalism, and resiliency for the pediatric residents and chief residents
  • Leads initiatives related to curriculum development, evaluation, and improvement
  • Leads initiatives related to program evaluation, improvement, and growth
  • Serves as Core Faculty and/or Faculty Advisor for the PRP signature curricula
    • Pediatric Academic Colleagues and Communities (PACC) learning community
    • Leadership Executive Academic Development (LEAD) curriculum
    • Wellness, Reflection, Advancement, and Professionalism (WRAP) Week
    • Patient Experience (PAUSE) Week
  • Determines need for and plans trainee remediation or advancement, in conjunction with the Clinical Competency Committee
  • Ensures compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Board of Pediatrics regulations, including maintaining ACGME Program Self-Study documents
  • Leads and/or participates in strategic planning for the PRP and the Office of Medical Education
  • Serves as a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC)
  • Clinical time in specialty

Qualifications
  • Board certified in Pediatrics with a record of academic scholarship
  • At least three years of education and/or administrative experience in educational programming or leadership
  • Previous service as an associate or assistant program director in an accredited categorical pediatric residency program preferred

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
