Network Services Manager

James Madison University Infrastructure Services is accepting applications for a qualified individual to fill the position of Network Services Manager. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services, the Network Services Manager will lead a growing team of talented network engineers in meeting the networking needs of the university. This position allows for some hybrid work opportunities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and documenting the day to day operations of the campus network to include the wired, wireless, and data center networks. Serve as the unit technical escalation point and oversee the professional development of Network Services team members. Be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the efforts of the network services team in support of Information Technology, Capital Construction, and other University level projects. Work closely with the Director of Infrastructure Services and the IT Leadership Team to anticipate, plan, and design current and future network needs of the university. Other duties include but are not limited to negotiating contracts, managing vendor relationships, and serving on multiple committees and working groups within IT and throughout the university.

Required:

  • Wired and Wireless Enterprise Network Architecture Design and Protocols for LAN WAN MAN.
  • Industry Best Practices for Network Management in an enterprise environment to include technical diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • ISP Transport and Cloud Networking Architecture
  • Network Access and Security Mitigation best practices
  • Demonstrated Managerial and Leadership Experience
  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills


Preferred:

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, C#, or Perl
  • Strong Attention to Details skills
  • Strong Leadership and Mentoring Ability
  • Experience in Higher Education
  • Experience managing remote staff
  • Knowledgeable in CIS Benchmarks for Networking
  • Knowledgeable in ISO 27002
