Salary and Benefits

The salary range will be from $85,000 - $95,000 per year.

This position is a Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position in the CSU, and serves at the pleasure of the President.

The CSU enjoys a generous benefits program with employer paid life insurance ($100,000), as well as health, dental, and vision insurance with the monthly premium largely paid by the CSU. Additionally, we offer a broad range of other benefits which includes dependent and health care reimbursement accounts, tuition fee waiver, 401k, 457 and 403(b) plans.

The CSU belongs to the CalPERS retirement plan in which medical and dental insurance continues in qualified retirement.

The CSU has 14 paid holidays and the position earns 24 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per year.

About the Position

This position reports to the Associate Vice President, Equity & Belonging/Dean of Students and provides administrative oversight, manages daily operations and budgets of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI),Gaining Access N’ Academic Success (GANAS), and Sankofa Scholars cultural programs. The Director will oversee counselors that provide direct student counseling and advising and will work in coordination with student assistants to ensure programming and outreach for each cultural program that will increase graduation and retention through high impact program practices. These programs are designed to improve educational access and provide academic support to low-income, first generation and historically disadvantaged students. The Director is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and management for all aspects of these programs to ensure student success and meet program objectives related to Student Affairs. The overarching goal will be to increase student participation rates, retention and student academic success focused on exceeding Graduation 2025 Initiative goals.

Additionally, the Director will be responsible for assigned initiatives related to the expansion of these programs, including reporting, tracking and budgeting as per funding requirements. Oversight includes meeting initiative program objectives for tutoring, mentoring and resource center services, including tracking/reporting program data. Coordination of community outreach events and activities related to campus initiatives (i.e., Puente breakfast and scheduled workshops and activities).

The Director ensures compliance with all federal, state, local and CSU regulations, mandates, and policies governing the operation of the department. In addition, the Director establishes consistent application for technology enhancements to improve service delivery and assumes ongoing assessment of student academic performance.

The Director is responsible for leading Engagement Initiatives for the Student Equity and Success (SEAS) department including setting benchmarks and timelines for engagement activities for all SEAS programs including Outreach, Workshop and Events, End of the Year Celebration, and the Scholarship Planning Teams.

Responsibilities

Supervision
  • Directs, supervises, and evaluates GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI staff, program services and activities that impact the retention and persistence of GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI students including outreach, recruitment, admissions, transition services (summer bridge and orientation), advising, academic tutoring and student mentoring programs.
  • Manages administrative support and student employees to ensure a well-functioning program with effective procedures.
Retention Management
  • Develops, implements, monitors and communicates a strategic plan for improving retention and graduation rates of the GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI student cohort.
  • Develops, implements, and assesses appropriate academic support programs to promote retention and graduation of GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI students, utilizing best practices.
  • Consults with faculty and staff, providing expert knowledge and up-to-date data, with the goal of enhancing student success for GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI students.
  • Collects and analyzes data to plan and write reports regarding deliverables and outcomes.
Program Management
  • Oversees the development and implementation of services for GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI, to include, outreach, recruitment, admissions, transition services (summer bridge and orientation), advising, peer mentoring, peer tutoring, student success workshops, and events.
  • Evaluates all GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI programs and related services and activities that impact student success. Works as a member of the leadership team to provide evaluation and assessment that support retention and graduation goals.
  • Collaborates with constituents across campus and within the Division of Student Affairs.
Fiscal Management
  • Develops and reports program budget for GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI with consultation with the AVP. Ensures adherence to Student Equity and Success, Student Affairs, Advancement, and ORSP budget development, planning, implementation and timeline requests.
Community Engagement
  • Develops and coordinates GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI services and partnership involvement with culturally diverse community organizations that serve communities with high GANAS, Sankofa Scholars, and AAPI eligible student and parent populations. Serves as a member of the Student Equity and Success leadership team, assisting in the implementation of strategic initiatives and goals to support student access and success.
  • In addition, the Director also provides information about Student Equity and Success and CSUEB programs that provide support and access to community members. Establish collaborative relationships with federal/state agencies and community organizations to facilitate student access to external resources.
Campus Engagement
  • Serves on committees across campus
Required Qualifications
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible management experience, including but not limited to supervising professional staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Management knowledge and skills in the development, implementation, and evaluation of staff and support programs.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs.
  • Knowledge of various learning styles as well as cultural identities and differences.
  • Ability to understand the academic year and processing cycles that affect workflow of the department and various advising centers.
  • Ability to review and verify complex records and detailed information for compliance with CSU requirements, Federal and State guidelines and interpret information from a variety of institutions.
  • Ability to determine proper techniques and actions to utilize while engaged with individuals behaving in argumentative or sensitive manner. Must be solution-oriented.
  • Ability to oversee projects and provide guidance and direction for the work of others.
  • Ability to build, manage, and report a budget.
  • Knowledge and skills in working with students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to direct training programs for professional and student staff.
  • Ability to write and secure grants and other external funding opportunities.
  • Skills in partnering with high schools, community colleges or other external agencies.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
  • Master's degree in a related field.
