Director, Pedagogy and Curricular Development

As we celebrate our 30^th anniversary, The Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching at Northwestern University is excited to launch our search for a Director of Pedagogy and Curricular Development. This is a high-level leadership position within the Center with University-wide impact.

The Director provides leadership for pedagogical and curricular development; shapes the vision, sets goals, designs leading-edge programs, and launches initiatives that align with Northwestern’s overarching commitment to enhancing the quality of teaching and deepening the learning of all students. This specialized educational development role elevates the level of staff expertise in the Searle Center, which embraces diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice as core principles.

The dynamic portfolio of initiatives is built on a scholarly foundation and is animated by bold thinking and strategic decision making to advance the following high priority areas: 1) High-quality, evidence-based development opportunities for instructors and signature programs; 3) Assessment and HLC Accreditation; 4) University-wide collaboration with partners in the student learning ecosystem; 5) Center leadership, including overseeing the work of two Assistant Directors, graduate student interns, and teaching consultants.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. preferably in fields related to job responsibilities and/or specializations that expand the disciplinary range at the center; A minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching at the college level; An affiliation or work within a college or university teaching and/or learning center or leadership experience in a related area of higher education administration; Expertise in pedagogy, curricular development, and assessment; Ability to build partnerships with diverse units across a complex organization and among faculty and staff at all levels; and a strong record of scholarly productivity preferably in educational development.
