Position Summary

The Dean is a part of the Provost's academic leadership team and serves as the chief academic and administrative officer and spokesperson of the College of Business Administration, its faculty, staff and students.

The Dean, as chief academic and administrative officer of the College of Business Administration, will consult with the faculty on a timely basis on academic and budgetary policy issues that affect them. As a spokesperson, the Dean is responsible for communicating the views of the College to the University and other stakeholders.

The primary responsibilities of the Dean are to provide leadership and manage the programs and activities of the College as one of the academic units of the California State University, Sacramento campus. As the heart of the region's higher education community, Sacramento State is dedicated to access, academic excellence, and Inclusive Excellence. Representing the college, the Dean promotes diversity as well as interdisciplinary and innovative initiatives, coordinates and supports the development and evaluation of educationally diverse academic program offerings and student support systems. The Dean has primary responsibility for external funds development, gifts, grants, and contracts that support the breadth of activities of the College, and provides leadership in building strong relationships and partnerships with, and generating support in, the greater community for the benefit of the College. The Dean also oversees development of annual budget requests and administers the College's budget. The Dean is responsible for personnel matters, including coordinating and supervising the administrative duties of department chairs, staff and program directors, and for making independent recommendations on all College appointment, retention, tenure, and promotion requests. The Dean supports the faculty in efforts to improve assessment of student learning outcomes for each degree program in the College. The Dean is responsible for academic program reviews and implementation of the University's Academic and Strategic Plans in the College.

FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation under FLSA). This position is benefits-eligible.

CSU Classification Salary Range: Minimum: $ 9,167.00 to Maximum: $ 27,500.00 per month

Hiring Range:

Based on qualifications, estimated to not exceed $20,000 per month

Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm and as needed

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience
  1. An earned doctoral or other terminal degree(s) and a record of scholarly contributions in a business discipline recognized by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) that warrants a faculty appointment as Full Professor within the College of Business Administration;
  2. Five (5) years administrative experience related to organizations and/ or educational programs in business;
  3. Evidence of fiscal resource management experience;
  4. Demonstrated experience in external fund development and developing revenue-generating programs;
  5. Experience managing a unionized workforce, subject to collective bargaining agreements;
  6. Successful teaching experience relevant to one or more of the disciplines in the College of Business Administration;

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to support the needs of socially and culturally diverse group of faculty members, including but not limited to: consensus building; making fair, timely, and clear decisions with appropriate faculty consultation;
  • Demonstrated record of successful experience with culturally and linguistically diverse groups and populations, including the ability to provide leadership with an open and collegial administrative style, and the ability to develop good working relationships with other colleges, the campus and the community;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including spoken and written communication;
  • Demonstrated track record of cultivating and maintaining strong community partnerships;
  • Evidence of community involvement and leadership as it relates to student recruitment and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the professional development of faculty and staff and to the pursuit of opportunities to obtain grants and contracts.
  • Expressed commitment to closing equity gaps and achieving the Graduation Initiative goals.

    14. Five (5) years of Professional or Corporate experience relevant to one or more of the disciplines in the College of Business Administration;

    15. Ability to build on the existing strengths to create a vibrant vision for the future of the College;

    16. Knowledge and/ or experience with AACSB accreditation processes;

    17. Experience in working closely with faculty within and across the college in developing innovative academic programs;

    18. Experience in shared governance and managing a unionized workforce, subject to collective bargaining agreements;

    19. Experience in establishing and managing of an advisory board;

    20. Experience in supporting Community Engagement, Service Learning, and/ or Global Education;

    21. Demonstrated understanding of the value of and support for the effective use of technology in all forms of instruction and research;

    22. Knowledge and experience with assessment of student learning outcomes;

    23. Experience with and a commitment to a Liberal Arts Education; and

    24. Demonstrated experience as a department chair or an equivalent or higher-level administrative position.
