Adjunct Librarian

DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision of the Dean of Instruction, Arts, Humanities and Multimedia,, the librarian performs a variety of professional library services and instructions in the use of the library and its resources and services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following:

1. Provide reference and information services to students and staff.

Give lectures on library use and orientation tours to students and staff.

Recommend books, periodicals, audio visual software, and other library materials for purchasing.

Attend faculty, Division, or other on-campus meetings, as required.

Organize and catalog collections using OCLC and other automated systems.

Keep current with new developments and knowledge in appropriate fields of competency.

Maintain control of equipment, materials, and supplies as assigned.

Report to the Director any condition which might jeopardize the health or safety of students or the public.

Be familiar with and act in accordance with the Education Code and Board of Trustee's Policies and Procedures.

Perform such other duties as assigned.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Work well with people; and have a wide variety of interests and be active in college, professional and community groups.

• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Knowledge of:

• Teaching-learning processes with special knowledge about individualizing the instruction program, and when appropriate, methods and techniques of laboratory instruction including health and safety precautions.

Education and Experience:

• Meet District minimum qualifications in the assigned discipline.

• Show successful experience as a librarian in reference work and course work in, or experience in a wide range of professional services.

• Two or mores years of experience as a librarian, preferably at the community college level.
