Job Summary:
Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Department of Social Sciences and History on the University’s Metropolitan campus in Teaneck and Hackensack, NJ, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of Human Geography with a specialization in Environmental and Political Geography to begin Fall 2023. The ideal candidate will teach a broad range of undergraduate courses including introductory geography and other general education courses for students enrolled in the Becton College of Arts & Sciences and Peter Sammartino School of Education (and seeking NJ licensure to teach Social Studies in Elementary or Middle School), Global Information System ( GIS ) and other courses for students enrolled in the University’s new BA in Environmental Studies, and upper division courses in their specialization. Fields of expertise and scholarly interest may include histories or geographies of the environment; political ecology; resource economics and global extractivism; sustainable policy, finance, urban planning, and infrastructure; climate justice and environmental racism; capitalism; colonialism and decolonization; migration; or gender and sexuality. A commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and service to the university are required for this position.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Geography, Historical Geography, or History by the time of appointment.
Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
