The Division of Drawing, Painting and Photography, New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC) at Alfred University is seeking candidates in Painting for the Theodore Randall International Chair in Art and Design, a distinguished artist residency and teaching position for the spring semester (1/16 to 5/9)
of 2023.
The Randall Chair was established in 2007 to honor the legacy of artist and educator Theodore Randall, remembered as the architect of the School of Art and Design at Alfred and as a significant artist and organizer in the field. The Randall Chair is open to established, international artists living outside the United States who, by virtue of their stature as experienced artists, will bring diverse cultural insight to the community of artists and educators at Alfred. The Division of Drawing, Painting and Photography is one of six divisions in a comprehensive program with a very active faculty and prolific student body who access renowned facilities for artistic and scholarly research.
The Division of Drawing, Painting and Photography seeks those who can facilitate an innovative connection with the faculty and students in the School of Art and Design. The painting faculty encourage a diversity of approaches within the unique language of painting and foster critical dialogue addressing contemporary global perspectives. The recipient of the Theodore Randall Chair will teach one upper-level painting course based in their art practice and interests and advise a group of senior painting students conducting independent studio work. The Randall Chair will also make a public presentation on their work and at the conclusion of their residency mount an informal exhibition of their work. A private studio with 24-hour access, research stipend, round-trip travel expenses to and from Alfred and housing will also be provided. The salary is competitive.
