The Academic Coach will work with a case load of first year students during the summer, fall and spring of their first year to assist them navigate our system of higher education to ensure a successful transition into their second year and beyond. This will include but is not limited to, academic, personal, financial, and career support.
Responsibilities:
- Advise prospective and current students concerning their personal, professional, and educational goals and curriculum.
- Support enrollment events including accepted student days and open houses.
- Administer the Student Strengths Inventory to all advisees and personally review results to develop a success plan for timely college completion.
- Serve an integral role during new student orientation.
- Provide proactive and engaged advising for students who may be at risk for not persisting.
- Outreach and intervene with students for whom a Beacon (alert system) notice is received
- Collaborate with student affairs in assisting students who are experiencing hardship.
- There is a possibility that this position may teach an academic success or first-year experience course or co-curricular program.
- Advise and train faculty and staff on best retention and student success practices, including making presentations and developing written materials.
- Maintain standards as outlined by NACADA and the CAS Standards.
- Provide information that will allow the executive director to create biannual departmental and institutional reports to monitor student success interventions and trends on campus.
- Maintain excellent relationships with financial aid and other areas across campus to proactively develop a big picture including satisfactory academic progress as well as career, financial, personal and academic barriers to success.
- Safety: Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
- Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree: Master's Preferred on college student development, education, psychology, counseling, social work or related field
- Position requires knowledge of information technology such as CANVAS, BANNER and Degree Works:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated use of advanced problem solving skills.
- Current experience or training in social justice, diversity and cultural competence with a strong interest in continued professional development in these areas is required.
