Schedule Information: Monday through Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm, weekends availability for events as needed

Hours per Week: 37.5

Work Conditions: Work is primarily indoors and requires moderate lifting, standing and walking. Various evening and weekend work is required based on events and daily set up requests.

Duties of Position: Responsible for oversight of various Operations Services Section operations including managing first shift custodial operations; set-up crew operations encompassing event coordination and drayage operations; uniform ordering and issuance; and campus signage. Through subordinate foremen plans and directs housekeeping with customers present; prepares buildings for set ups and customer events and other related functions and activities and manages campus signage requirements and installation. Ensures cleanup of space after event usage. Through directive of Operations Manager, works to oversee overtime is clearly posted when needed. Oversees custodial foremen as Acting Operations Supervisor when Operations Manager is off campus.

Assists in the overall planning for custodial care and maintenance of Harper main campus facilities and furnishings and direct the accomplishment of this in such a manner as to insure an efficient, economical operation that provides a safe, clean and inviting environment for students, staff and visitors.

Investigates complaints regarding matters such as lack of custodial care, employee performance deficiencies and/or conduct, building safety, etc., and initiates corrective action as required.

Determines with Custodial shift foremen the need for special corrective and preventative custodial activities such as general overall cleaning projects and plan for the accomplishment of these activities per facility schedules and building occupancy.

Uses 25 Live and work requests to coordinate, plan and supervise all facility setups and moves, setups and breakdowns, movement of furniture equipment and supplies on the Harper campus and other College locations.

Determines and arranges for the rental of equipment needed for setups and events.

Contributes to Daily Shift Report

Coordinate the pick-up of recycled goods and ensure these materials are disposed of properly and serve as the point of contact for common refuse collection.

Requisitions, installs, and regulates the installation and use of refuse containers and disposal needed for construction projects.

Manages the Facilities Management Division uniform program in cooperation with Operations Manager and Shipping and Receiving personnel.

Manages the Campus signage program.

Recommends budget expenditures throughout the year. Prepares expenditure records for materials and supplies of the section working with Operations Manager and Supply Inventory Coordinator.

Guides and gives technical assistance to the three subordinate foreman in such matters as College, Division and Department policies and procedures, work guidelines, operating methods, techniques and procedures, safety regulations, employee/management relations, etc. while assigning specific duties and holding them accountable for the satisfactory and effective performance of such duties. Directs and trains the subordinate foreman in order to develop their maximum potential and effectiveness

Implements policies to improve production, equipment performance and quality of work performed. Makes recommendations to change working conditions, procedures, and equipment usage methods in order to increase efficiency in other areas of the Department and College.

Serves as the first step in grievance procedures.

Recommends personnel actions including hiring, promotion, transfer, disciplinary actions and discharge.

Investigates all accidents and injuries of appropriate staff and submit reports with findings to the Environmental & Safety Manager.

Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Educational Requirements: Associate’s degree, or equivalent combination of formal education in a business/management or related field.

Experience Requirements: 2 years of supervisory experience in either housekeeping/custodial/planning and event management is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required as is the ability to read, write and speak English. Multilingual is a plus. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills coupled with the ability to delegate authority while retaining responsibility. Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Oracle Fusion, Peoplesoft and Publisher is mandatory as is the ability to become proficient in job required software applications. This position requires dealing with a wide range of personnel and complex technical tasks requiring independent assessment and decision-making.
