Job Description

The Pamplin College of Business is seeking a Senior Human Resources Manager reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administration, the Sr. HR Manager is specifically responsible for managing HR operations in accordance university and state policies, procedures as well as federal fair labor standard laws. The Sr. HR Manager works with college senior leadership to manage recruitment logistics, onboarding/offboarding processes, compensation analysis/benchmarking, performance planning and evaluation, benefits consulting and communication, college HR procedure development, manage/facilitate employee engagement initiatives, employee relations, threat assessment, audit compliance standards, and HR data analytics and reporting.
Core Responsibilities:
Assist and facilitate the talent acquisition process, including sourcing, developing job descriptions, sample interview questions, assisting with the interview process, and onboarding.
Facilitate a charge/training meeting with all search committees in the college, ensure and track that all members of the search are aware of training requirements and have identified a diversity advocate. Assist search committee members with access to training and serve as 1st point of contact if search members have questions during the search process.
Supervise the central HR area of the college and directly supervise the HR generalist and the HR coordinator. Provide indirect leadership to the other HR staff in the college.
Manage the compilation, maintenance, analysis, and presentation of HR data
Manage the performance management cycle and work directly with supervisors to develop and recommend career development opportunities.
Manage the compensation strategy for staff and AP Faculty through market analysis and internal equity benchmarking.
Serve as the first point of contact for employee concerns and work with senior management to determine the best course of action to address, resolve, and mediate all types of concerns and conflict.
Host or facilitate HR related workshops, discussions, and training that will help provide resources and guidance to supervisors and employees.
Responsible for existing employee awards and recognition programs and facilitating other employee engagement initiatives.
Maintain HR compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, work visa requirements, renewals, timing and eligibility, records management.
Manage the Pamplin and Provost hiring plan as well as track positions, FTE allocations and monitor regular and restricted appointments in the college.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field with experience which may equate to a graduate level degree.
• Significant experience in an HR management role.
• Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
• Strong consulting, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated excellence in all forms of communication
• Ability to compile and analyze work force data to guide strategic planning and reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage workload, meet objectives and deadlines, make independent decisions and creatively solve problems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field
• Experience in an academic, and/or Business Management environment.
• Experience with systems such as Banner HRIS, PageUp, TCP, and MicroStrategy or similar.
• Experience with Virginia Tech human resources policies and procedures.
• SPHR/PHR certification.
