The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)-accredited School of Public Health at Texas A&M University invites well-qualified scholars to submit applications for up to two (2) full-time open-rank tenure-track positions to advance the research and provide leadership of the Board of Regents-approved USA Center for Rural Public Health Preparedness (the Center). Faculty considering this opportunity will be asked to identify an academic home in any of the four departments in the School: Health Behavior, Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, or the Health Policy and Management. Texas A&M University is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), is a Carnegie Classification R1-Very High Research Activity with over $1 Billion in annual research expenditures and is one of only 17 institutions in the nation to hold the triple designation as a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university. The Texas A&M School of Public Health is going through multiple years of expansion having hired 10 new faculty members in the past year and recruiting at least 10 additional tenure track positions within the next year. The successful candidates will be actively engaged in scholarship and extramural research activity that aligns with the USA Center’s mission and will teach courses and mentor students in one or more graduate and undergraduate programs within the School. Faculty enjoy fully-funded 9-month appointments with a standard teaching load of four classes a year, with options for reduced teaching loads and/or additional (Summer) salary for well-funded researchers. The appointment will ideally start by September 1, 2023, but this date is flexible. Interviews of well-qualified applicants will start as early as September 2022, and applications will be considered until the positions are filled. About the USA Center for Rural Public Health Preparedness

The Center’s mission is to promote the development of knowledge, skills, and capacity surrounding emergency preparedness planning, response, mitigation, and recovery in communities throughout the country, with emphasis on rural and underserved communities.

The Center engages in a variety of training and outreach activities that work to prepare the workforce and local officials in disaster preparedness, recovery and response. It has twice been named as a CDC Public Health Preparedness Center and regularly provides contracted support to the Texas Department of State Health Services, tribal governments, and local public health agencies. Training programs through the Center are well- developed and include a range of topics designed to improve preparedness competency and capacity both nationally and around the world.

Located in College Station, TX on the flagship campus of the Texas A&M University System, the CEPH- accredited School of Public Health (SPH) has over 60 faculty in four departments. Texas A&M University, a land-, sea-, and space-grant institution, was the state’s first public institution of higher learning, is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU) and boasts world-class resources available to SPH faculty. Texas A&M University has a vibrant role in emergency preparedness response as the home to the 52- acre Disaster City, hosts an annual HSC-wide student-led Disaster Day, and hosts the system-wide Texas A&M Emergency Management Advisory Group (TEMAG). Faculty in the School of Public Health serve on TEMAG and regularly collaborate with other disaster-related research centers around campus, including

the Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center, Humanitarian Robotics and AI laboratory, Veterinary Emergency Team, and others.


Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in public health, disaster management, or closely related field from an accredited school of public health or related educational institution. The successful candidates’ scholarship will focus on disaster preparedness and response that aligns with the USA Center’s mission.

The candidate will be expected to contribute to Center leadership and will expand research capacity for the Center with new research collaborations within and beyond Texas A&M University.
