Southwestern University has an immediate opening for The Director of Housing. The Director of Housing is part of a housing team responsible for all operational aspects of a comprehensive and vibrant student residential program designed to ensure student safety and well-being and enhance student persistence and success. The position is responsible for strategic planning, management, and operation, both day-to-day and long-term, of residential facilities with increasing residential capacity. This position includes on-call responsibilities and supervises two full-time, live-on coordinators. This is a full-time, fully benefitted, exempt position who reports to the Vice President for Student Life.
Primary Duties include but are not limited to:
- Manage daily operations of the housing department, including
Work with University partners to develop a Housing Facilities Master plan encompassing construction, renovation, deferred maintenance, renewal and replacement, as well as general and preventative maintenance. Compile an annual analysis of competitive market housing rates and make recommendations for housing rate structures. Work with supervisor and other University staff to ensure proper administration of University policies and procedures. Manage and take part in rotating on-call duty coverage. Maintain office hours for informal contact and maximum accessibility with residents and staff. Work collaboratively with campus partners:
- Supervision of live-in professional staff. Management of all aspects of housing assignments. Maintaining and adjusting processes and coordinating communications related to: housing applications, roommate matching/room selection, exemption from live-on requirement, and administration of housing software. Maintenance of accurate, up-to-date records related to occupancy (including mid-semester room changes), meal plans, key inventories, and room condition. Oversight of check-in and check-out, including room condition reports, damage reports, and damage billing. Timely completion of all work, either personally or through delegation and supervision.
- Articulate a vision for on-campus housing, including existing and future housing needs. Partner with Facilities Management on residential projects, issues, and timely communication to residents. Track and follow up on work orders and other maintenance-related issues. In collaboration with Mosaic & the Residential Experience, assist, participate in, and encourage students and staff in the implementation of educational and community development activities and programs. Work cooperatively with campus partners on issues of occupancy, hall maintenance, safety and security matters, damages. With SUPD, provide emergency and crisis training and communication to RA staff. With the Center for Academic Success, oversee housing accommodations processes to meet needs of students. With the AVP Finance, liaise with residential laundry vendor.
- Demonstrate effective communication, planning, and organizational skills as they relate to job responsibilities. Meet with supervisor weekly, and participate in weekly area staff meetings; attend staff development activities and in-service training programs as required by supervisor. Prepare monthly reports detailing services and programs provided. Serve as a referral agent to other University related services. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or related field.
- Outstanding ability to relate to traditional college-aged students.
- General knowledge regarding student development theory and practices.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic.

- At least seven years of experience in Housing/Residence Life, in a university setting, with increasing responsibility.
- Any experience working with Greek organizations and Greek housing.
- Experience constructing and/or opening new residence halls.
- Understanding and commitment to a liberal arts education, including the ability to relate to liberal arts faculty and staff.
