We are seeking a Registered Nurse for per diem work within our Student Health Center. These hours may include weekend/evening rotation during our months of operation. The Registered Nurse’s responsibilities are both clinical and administrative. This individual provides direct health care services to eligible students within standard RN scope of practice and clinically reports to the Director of Medical Services. Administrative responsibilities include management of student health requirements including data entry, inventory management, and quality assurance activities. Occasional group health and wellness education programs and presentations are included in the responsibilities of this position.



Review of resumes will begin immediately and will continue until position is filled. Band 19. Pay starts at $35/hour, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide health care services to eligible students by performing initial nursing assessment and triage as well as office based testing when indicated
  • Perform nursing treatments, nebulizer treatments, venipuncture, imPACT testing, first aid, and treatment of illnesses and injuries within the scope of practice of a registered nurse licensed in Massachusetts as stated in 244 CMR 3.00 Board of Registration in Nursing. Collaborate with Health Services providers as needed
  • Document medical history and physical assessment findings on office forms and within computerized versions thereof in a timely manner
  • Dispense treatments and over-the-counter medications within RN scope of practice and under guidelines provided by APRN/PA/MD. Determine for APRN/PA or MD evaluation
  • Support APRN/PA/MD in treatment of students and scheduling follow up appointments
  • Conduct follow-up telephone calls to students and call in prescriptions to pharmacies as required by APRN/PA/MD
  • Maintain and regularly monitor expiration of vaccine, medication, and supply inventory. Will perform vaccine ordering as per the Director
  • Review new student records for fulfillment of detailed vaccine and health requirements according to the College and State guidelines. Fulfill all facets of the health record management including data entry into an applicable database/software program. Communicate clearly with the students in writing, including e-mail, telephone, and in person about record completion
  • Respond to inquiries and complete forms upon request of students and clinical coordinators
  • Contact a student's medical provider when needed to resolve questions and concerns with requirement fulfillment
  • Perform and record monthly quality assurance testing on medical devices
  • Supervise student workers
Qualifications
  • Must hold valid R.N. license to practice professional nursing in the State of Massachusetts
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of two years of professional nursing practice including one year in an ambulatory setting
  • School/college, public, or occupational health experience preferred
  • CPR/AED certification
  • Proficiency in or ability to attain proficiency in administering and reading PPD (TB skin tests)
  • Demonstrate necessary confidentiality practices and decision making skills
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced environment with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows environment. Must have the ability to attain proficiency in the use of specific applications used by the College/Department
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents
