MINIMUM PAY RATE:t$25.29 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY
The Veterinary Nursing Coordinator (VNC) functions as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in a teaching environment. The VNC will spend a considerable amount of time on the following: reviewing records and animal care, helping students outside of class with animal care, stocking and maintaining the facility, and assisting faculty with classes. Other responsibilities include oversight of students, lab assisting, inventory, ordering, equipment maintenance and repair, maintaining orderly facilities. Will be required to interact with all species of animals.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide routine, medical, and husbandry animal care.
2. Supervise animal wards.
3. Supervise and coordinate student animal care duties in coordination with animal care instructor(s).
4. Oversee and delegate duties to students during student Animal Care/Kennel Duty as needed.
5. On-Call duties for animal emergencies as needed.
6. Maintain safety guidelines for students, animals, MSDS logs.
7. Maintain and operate equipment; maintain inventories of pharmaceuticals, food and supplies; maintain and supervise records.
8. Hire, train and supervise Vet Tech student workers.
9. Manage procurement of animals for use in facilities.
10. Maintain orderly Veterinary Medical Technology facility.
11. Assist with regulatory requirements.
12. Provide lab assistance including surgical assistance and monitoring of anesthesia.
13. Manage animal adoptions.
14. Schedule and man weekly open labs to monitor/assist students with procedures and equipment.
15. Perform medical procedures on a variety of animals as necessary.
16. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Certified Veterinary Technician or eligible for Illinois license.
2. Maintain Credentialed Veterinary Technician or DVM licensure by completing CE hours required by the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation and renewing license every two years.
3. Three (3) years of clinical experience.
4. Ability to assist with and perform a wide variety of routine medical, surgical and diagnostic procedures common to the veterinary practice setting.
5. Strong personal computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
6. Attentiveness to detail, excellent organizational skills, initiative, multitasking.
7. Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability and willingness to work cooperatively with a diverse population.

8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Normal veterinary clinic/classroom physical demands.
2. Ability to move and lift animals, equipment and supplies up to 50lbs.
3. Vision correctible to 20/20.
4. Ability to transport animals between campus and community sites.
5. Ability to travel between campus locations and community events.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties are performed indoors/outdoors in the usual veterinary clinical environment.

Internal candidates must adhere to the terms of employment regarding length of time in current position as outlined in their union contract.
