Job Description: The Department of Music at Harper College, a two-year institution located 20 miles northwest of Chicago, seeks a faculty member for an adjunct faculty position. Candidates should possess expertise in the following areas of Music: music theory, music literature, ethnomusicology and/or musicology. Other responsibilities include development of instructional plans to meet course competencies, and course activities that support lesson objectives using traditional and alternative delivery methods.
Throughout its more than fifty-year history, the Department of Music at Harper College has maintained a distinguished tradition of excellence in the cultural life of Chicago's Northwest suburbs. With a faculty of more than fifty artists and scholars brought together from institutions from around the world, every facet of our program is guided by recognized expertise. Members of the performance faculty in the Department of Music maintain active careers ranging from appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grant Park Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, and many others, to a wide variety of professional chamber ensembles and solo appearances.
Complementing a high level of excellence in performance, the Department of Music maintains a similar tradition of academic excellence in the classroom. It is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music with recognized transfer programs in music. The combination of a strong curriculum and a thoroughly dedicated faculty provides students with the constant guidance of experienced professionals and the tools for future success.
Education Requirements: Masters degree in music or music education or the equivalent.
Experience Requirements: Preference will be given to applicants who have previous experience teaching at the secondary and/or college levels.
