Job Details

Lycoming College is currently accepting applications for a Payroll / HRIS Specialist.  This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.  The payroll / HRIS specialist serves as the institution’s primary payroll administrator and is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of regular and special payrolls as well as tax reporting.  This position also serves as the College’s primary administrator of the Human Resources Information System.  This position is a key member of the Human Resources staff and provides additional help to other areas of HR, including support of benefits administration, workers’ compensation, and leave administration, among others.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Processing and auditing biweekly and monthly payroll
  • Preparing deposits for federal, state, and local payroll taxes
  • Preparing and completing the annual W-2 form process
  • Creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for payroll processes
  • Completing the Annual ACA reporting
  • Coordinating and responding to unemployment claims in conjunction with other HR staff members
  • Serving as the primary administrator of the HRIS system
  • Completing salary surveys and audits

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of payroll and HRIS administration experience, or a combination of relevant HR and payroll experience
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior experience working with Colleague, Ellucian, and/or Kronos systems strongly preferred

The following skills and strengths are required for this position:

  • Strong knowledge of payroll and tax reporting procedures, including ACA reporting and W-2 generation
  • Strong understanding of and the ability to navigate human resources information systems, including running reports and generating queries
  • High degree of accuracy
  • Accurate and efficient data-entry skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently to accomplish duties
  • Critical thinking skills to proactively identify potential efficiencies, find potential errors or areas of risk, and develop solutions to address challenges or mitigate risks
  • Commitment to a customer-service approach to handling employee and student inquiries
  • Strong oral and written communication skills – the ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to create coherent, professional documentation for employees and supervisors regarding payroll procedures
  • Commitment to working productively in a team environment and willingness to aid others in the department and across the campus
  • Commitment to proactively keeping up with changing payroll and tax laws and regulations and continuing growth in knowledge
