JOB SUMMARY

The Research, Assessment, and Data Analytics team is responsible for enabling the Educational Innovation Unit to be a data-driven organization, leveraging data to inform strategic, operational, and tactical decisions. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Design and Operations, the Senior Director for Research, Assessment & Data Analytics provides leadership to advance adoption, research, and evaluation of educational initiatives and experiential learning at Northeastern. The Senior Director will provide leadership in three main areas:
  • Strategic development and implementation of data analytics which leverage best practices in research methodology and data science to provide insights into the use and impact of educational innovation initiatives and experiential learning.
  • Development of key partnerships with university stakeholders to support research and evaluation of educational innovation initiatives and experiential learning at the university.
  • Inform the strategic development of a data analytics infrastructure to understand the student experience.


The Senior Director combines knowledge of learning science with methodological expertise to guide high-quality data analytics and related research and evaluation. The Senior Director will use sophisticated analyses to provide findings that are nuanced, informative, and rigorous. The Senior Director will be responsible for the translation of data into actionable insights for a variety of stakeholders and purposes.

The Senior Director will collaborate with stakeholders across the university to support the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to their adoption and use of educational innovation initiatives, including the development of dashboards to deliver accurate and timely data. The Senior Director will supervise data scientists to conduct research and evaluation of educational innovation initiatives and experiential learning with the goal of understanding impact, continuous improvement, and supporting data-driven decision-making.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong background in the principles of research methods and data analysis.
  • Ability to design evaluations and to collect, analyze and present data in a clear and concise manner to multiple university stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and lead a collaborative team of data analysts and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced fluency with database development and data visualization platforms including Tableau, D3.js, Power BI or other data presentation layer tools. Advanced fluency with Python, R and/or SQL to analyze data.
  • Ability to learn and master higher-education specific computer software applications.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituents at all levels of the university as well as external stakeholders to develop and implement successful assessment plans.
  • Effective writing and spoken communication skills.
  • Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically obtained through a graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, or closely related field plus at least five years of work experience in statistical modeling and data science.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) In support of university's research mission and goals, design and implement a research and data analytics strategy to understand the impact of educational innovation initiatives and experiential learning at Northeastern. Report the results of assessments to stakeholders.

2) Formulate mathematical or simulation models to answer key assessment and research questions with attention to the limitations of data and methodological approaches, possible alternatives, and complex objectives of stakeholders using artificial intelligence, machine learning, and social science statistics.

3) Supervise data scientists to conduct data analysis and evaluation of educational innovation initiatives and experiential learning, with the goal of understanding impact, continuous improvement, and supporting data-driven decision-making.

4) Develop data analytics, dashboards, and data analytics which can provide timely, accurate and insightful support data-driven decision-making related to educational innovation initiatives by different university constituencies.
