Job Description
The Patricia McIlrath Endowed Professorship of Theatre Arts is an esteemed professorship in the Conservatory and the university. Endowed Professors are outstanding leaders in scholarship, teaching and service and are among the most prestigious positions in the university. These prominent scholars provide leadership and service to the university and the surrounding community. This endowed professorship is offered as tenure-eligible at the Associate or Full Professor rank.
Chair of the division will provide vision for the theatre program and for collaboration, both within and outside of the university; serve as the liaison between the theatre faculty and Conservatory administration; supervise faculty activities in the Theatre Division, to include teaching load assignments, conducting teaching observations, submitting annual evaluations of each faculty member in the division, making hiring recommendations to the Dean of the Conservatory, and managing personnel issues; oversee all theatre curriculum, including curricular modifications, assessment of degree plans, and student enrollment; work with Dean, Associate Dean, and Production Manager on Theatre budget; advocate for division faculty members and their shared concerns and mission; coordinate division meetings, performances, masterclasses, and guest artists; guide and support the production season and act as artistic liaison with producing partners; teach courses in area of specialization; lead efforts in recruitment; mentor students’ creative work during the production season; maintain a national/international profile as an artist and/or scholar; contribute to the performance, academic, and service environments characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; enrich the cultural environment of the Kansas City metropolitan community; participate actively in the intellectual life of the Conservatory and university by serving on graduate and faculty committees, as well as engaging in other Conservatory activities; other duties as assigned, based on the candidate’s strengths and the needs of the institution.
Minimum Qualifications
Successful and innovative experience as a theatre instructor in a university setting and a record of creative scholarship/research to support rank as an Associate/Full Professor.
Successful leadership experience in a university setting; significant professional experience and reputation at the national/international level in a theatre discipline; demonstrated ability to attract, retain, and mentor quality undergraduate and graduate students from differing backgrounds; strong commitment to teaching and mentorship; terminal degree in theatre, or equivalent professional experience; significant academic credentials and standing required for tenure at UMKC and the rank of associate professor or professor in the Conservatory.
Full Time/Part Time
This is a full time, ranked, tenure eligible, benefit eligible, nine-month faculty appointment with expectations for summer administration as division chair. The appointment starts Fall of 2023.
Salary
Rank and tenure will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
