Job Description

Teach undergraduate and graduate applied bass for classical and jazz students; teach coursework in areas of interest and specialty as needed, including literature, pedagogy, chamber music, or courses in the jazz curriculum; recruit and retain diverse bass students at both the undergraduate and graduate level; maintain a professional profile that reflects the career of a distinguished teacher/performer; contribute to the enhancement of all facets of the Performance Division, including chamber and large ensembles; collaborate musically and artistically, both within and outside of the university; contribute to the performance, academic, and service environments characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; enrich the cultural environment of the Kansas City metropolitan community; participate actively in the intellectual life of the Conservatory and university by serving on graduate and faculty committees, recruiting, mentoring, and teaching students from differing backgrounds, as well as engaging in other Conservatory activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful candidates will havedemonstrated successful and innovative experience teaching string bass in both classical and jazz idioms; significant professional experience at the national level as a performer/scholar; demonstrated ability to attract quality undergraduate and graduate string bass students; doctoral degree in string bass performance, or equivalent professional experience.

Full Time/Part Time

This is a full time, ranked, tenure-track eligible, benefit eligible, nine-month faculty appointment. The appointment starts Fall of 2023.

Salary

Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity . UMKC offers an excellent retirement/benefits package.
