Job Description

UMKC Conservatory is seeking a qualified tenure track Assistant Professor of Scenic Design

Principal duties for the Assistant Professor of Scenic Design include teaching, mentoring, and advising students in Scenic Design at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Position will supervise and mentor student design and construction work and is expected to maintain or develop a national profile as a professional artist and/or scholar who can connect classroom experiences to professional practice. In addition to teaching and creative work, active participation in shared faculty governance and service within the Conservatory, and University is expected. Potential exists for the right candidate to work with the LORT theatre in residence on campus, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful candidates would be able to teach all aspects of the scenic design process as well as some aspects of technology related to the field. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of professional work in theatre and/or design for the screen and new media. All candidates will have a record of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work.

Full Time/Part Time

This is a full time, ranked, tenure-track eligible, benefit eligible, nine-month faculty appointment. The appointment starts Fall of 2023.

Salary

Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity . UMKC offers an excellent retirement/benefits package.
