Music Director-Conductor, Elon University, Department of Performing Arts

Elon University’s Department of Performing Arts invites applications for a Music Director-Conductor

in Music Theatre full-time lecturer or tenure-track position depending on professional experiences and educational qualifications beginning mid-August 2023.

Graduate degree in music, theatre, or music theatre, is required; we welcome applications from candidates who bring broadly integrated and interdisciplinary perspectives. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate significant contributions in teaching and music direction/conducting for music theatre at the University and/or professional level. Preference will be given to candidates who provide evidence of knowledge of the canon of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, and/or multicultural works in the genre.

 

Teaching will include music directing and conducting mainstage productions, Music Theatre History, Music Theatre Literature, Music Theory/Sight-Singing all from a global perspective, and courses in the Elon Core Curriculum. Strong keyboard, programming, and sound design experience as well as secondary area in writing/composition for music theatre is desired. Other courses relating to the candidate’s areas of expertise in music theatre could also be offered. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.
