Job Description Summary

The Auburn University Industrial and Systems Engineering ( ISE ) Department invites applications for a Professor of Practice position in Systems Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to identify and lead new industry-driven systems engineering research projects and develop and teach courses in Systems Engineering for both on-campus students and professional distance-learning students. This is a non-tenure track position in the ISE Department. The Systems Engineering Program provides students with the skills needed to be systems engineers, program managers, researchers, and designers for the next generation of complex, large-scale systems.
The candidate should have significant work experience and a network in systems engineering that can be leveraged to support the educational and research mission of the systems engineering program. The ISE department is particularly interested in growing research opportunities in the following areas: Model-Based Systems Engineering ( MBSE ), systems engineering tools, systems engineering-related software topics, human-systems interactions, and sociotechnical systems design. Applicants should have a strong background in systems development and systems engineering, a passion for teaching and developing courses in the systems engineering domain, and a desire to participate in and lead research projects in systems engineering-related areas.
The Systems Engineering program at Auburn University has experienced a recent explosion in growth. The ISE department has seen nearly $3M in research funding in systems engineering-related projects over the last three years. The demand for systems engineering is fueled by significant interest coming out of the Huntsville/Redstone Arsenal area. Auburn University is expected to have a growing role in providing educational pathways in systems engineering to our undergraduate and graduate students. We will be launching a new graduate certificate in Systems Engineering in the next year.
The candidate will be expected to establish new research opportunities, develop and teach courses in systems engineering, contribute to mentoring students, participate in outreach, and be involved with relevant professional societies. We expect the candidate to spend a significant portion of their time at the new Auburn University facility in Huntsville. The successful candidate is expected to bring experience, innovation, enthusiasm, and leadership to the Industrial and Systems Engineering department.
