Oversees Houston Public Media (HPM) strategy execution of news on all platforms, ensuring collaborative and effective news coverage and marketing. Job Duties
  1. Develops and produces media for various projects in accordance with PBS Editorial Standards.
  2. Oversees and provides guidance to producers, reporters and digital staff.
  3. Coordinates media distribution and promotion across all platforms.
  4. Develops producers for succession roles within HPM.
  5. Understands brands and manages news so products are consistent with brands.
  6. Sets coverage expectations well in advance.
  7. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Bachelors and 5 years experience

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

Notes to Applicant: This position offers an experienced journalist the opportunity to lead a team of news anchors and reporters in covering daily hard news in the fourth largest city in the nation. The Executive Producer for Daily News will oversee daily news assignments and workflow, with responsibility for planning, editing, and final production of daily newscasts and breaking news across multiple platforms. The E. P. is a critical thinker, using data analysis, audience engagement, and industry best practices to determine story selection for news stories, develop coverage plans, and manage newsroom resources. This is a hands-on role, so the E.P. must be able to edit and produce audio and digital stories and make quick decisions during breaking news situations. The E.P. supervises team members on the newscast unit and is expected to provide training and mentorship in the newsroom. The E.P. also works closely with our parters in The Texas Newsroom and NPR to coordinate statewide and national news coverage. This position reports to the News Director.
