California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure track faculty ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in the Finance, Real Estate, and Law Department in an area related to the study and/or promotion of Finance. 

Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Student Population.  California residents comprise the majority (96%) of applicants to undergraduate programs at Cal Poly Pomona – nearly half (49%) of new students were transfers in Fall 2020.  58% of Cal Poly Pomona students are first generation, 70% receive financial aid, and 44% qualify as Pell-eligible.  The university enrolls a diverse student body that identifies as 49% Latinx, 21% Asian, 15% White, 3% Black, 5% International, 3% two or more races, 3% unknown, and less than 1% Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander and less than 1% Native American Indigenous. 39% of the student body were STEM majors with the top enrolled programs including psychology, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, biology and computer science.

Tenure track faculty hires will demonstrate a commitment and record of contributions through their teaching, scholarship, or service to these inclusive excellence criteria (a minimum of two must be addressed in the Student Success Statement):

1. Integrates the values of equity and inclusivity into their teaching, scholarship and/or service contributions with diverse student populations;

College of Business Administration: The College of Business Administration at Cal Poly Pomona is a diverse community of students, teacher-scholars, and staff committed to active learning through the application of theory to practice. The College of Business Administration provides eight subplans leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. It also offers several graduate programs - Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA), Master of Science in Information Security (MSIS), and Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA).

Department of Finance, Real Estate, and Law: The Finance, Real Estate and Law (FRL) Department offers a B.S. degree in Finance, Real Estate and Law, serving approximately 950 students in the major. The success of our program results from the solid curriculum that integrates hands-on experiential learning experiences, such as financial analysis and trading experience through the use of our interactive Bloomberg terminals and the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) program. The FRL Department provides faculty members excellent research support through access to Bloomberg terminals, WRDS subscription including COMPUSTAT and CRSP Databases, and regular funding for conference travel. Position description: The new faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in financial institutions and markets, financial modeling, derivatives, international finance, and business forecasting. The successful candidate must also have a strong commitment to research and scholarly activities, and service to the Department, College, University and Community. Applicants whose work incorporates a global perspective and a commitment to diversity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. or DBA degree in Finance or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • A commitment and a record of contributions to student success through applicant’s teaching, scholarship, or service.  This will be described in the Student Success Statement, which must address at least two of the inclusive excellence criteria listed above. 
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence
  • Demonstrated potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated potential to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and/or service, and of commitment to teaching and working in a multicultural environment

  • Expertise in derivatives
  • Expertise in financial markets and institutions
  • Expertise in international finance
  • Expertise in financial technology
  • Previous peer-reviewed journal publications in Finance
  • Teaching experience at the university level
  • Evidence of advising student-focused experiential learning activities

  • Statement of research and at least one sample of research (job market papers, publications of research projects); and
  • Unofficial transcript showing highest degree earned.

Finalists for the position will: 

  • Be required to provide official transcripts for highest degree before the on-campus interview; and
  • Be expected to make a scholarly and teaching presentation.
