About the Opportunity

The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Department at Northeastern University is seeking outstanding individuals to fill a non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor position in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in the area of Industrial Engineering.

Responsibilities:

The main responsibility of the Assistant Teaching Professor position is high quality student-centered teaching, including course preparation, delivery, and assessment. The annual course responsibility is six courses. The Assistant Teaching Professor is also given the opportunity to participate in department, university, and professional service activities as well as be engaged in a modest level of research activities, for their own professional development.

Course assignments may be at both the undergraduate and graduate levels within the department with primary emphasis on probability and statistics, operations research, data mining, database management, machine learning and data analytics.

While not a requirement, the Assistant Teaching Professor may choose to initiate and undertake research and service activities, including, but not limited to advising undergraduate and graduate students, student recruiting, e-learning, educational research, publications, and presentations. Such activities are encouraged and supported by the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. required in Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field by the appointment start date. Excellent written and oral communication skills and evidence of teaching effectiveness are expected.

Preferred Qualifications:

Industrial expertise is desirable along with familiarity with latest electronic teaching tools and experiential e-learning.
