Animal Studies (Global Animal Studies). Assistant Professor of Animal Studies with a specialty
in qualitative investigations of global human animal encounters, looking at spheres of study that
intersect with animals and practices or categories of human-animal relations that can include all
time periods and all locations of human animal encounters.
This is a tenure track position, to start in August, 2023. Ph.D. in any discipline, with research
related to global animal studies required. We seek an applicant committed to excellence in
undergraduate teaching and research. Teach seven courses per academic year (3-1-3), including
Introduction to Animal Studies, Animal Studies Capstone, Global Animal Studies and electives
in an area of specialty to contribute to courses for a newly developed, interdisciplinary program
in Animal Studies. Qualitative research expertise is strongly preferred.
Participation in an interdisciplinary, values-oriented general education program is required,
including a regular rotation in the two-semester first-year program. Eckerd College, the only
independent national liberal arts college in Florida, has a tradition of innovative education and
