The University of Southern Indiana’s David L. Rice Library is seeking a librarian to serve as the Assistant Director and Head of Public Services. The Assistant Director and Head of Public Services is a vital member of the leadership team and provides oversight for all public-facing service units.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serve as a leader for the library and as adviser to the Director of Library Services regarding public service issues
- Aid the Director with the administration of the library by coordinating operations and services across units and working with other leaders to recommend, establish, and develop library-wide priorities and policies
- Provide oversight for the Research Services, Checkout, and Scholarly Communication units
- Along with the leadership team, contribute to strategic and other long- and short-term planning for the library’s services and programs, including space planning within the library
- Oversee building safety
- Assume responsibility for library facilities in the absence of the Director
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- American Library Association-accredited Master of Library Science degree (or equivalent) required
- Minimum of three years of professional experience with two years of experience managing staff, projects, or programs. Preference given to academic library or higher education experience.
- Evidence of a successful record of progressively greater leadership skills and abilities
- Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty members, and staff in a complex and rapidly-changing environment
- Demonstrated experience with successfully developing, managing, and completing complex projects and/or programs in a library or higher education setting
- Evidence of ongoing professional development, participation, contributions, and impact
Strong planning and organizational skills and evidence of initiative - Strong analytical skills and evidence of creative and innovative problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; strong public service orientation; ability to work independently and collaboratively; demonstrated flexibility and attention to detail
- Ability to mentor and motivate librarians and/or library staff members and to foster an environment of collaboration and experimentation
- Knowledge of current issues and trends in academic libraries
- Must present a professional demeanor while meeting deadlines and achieving critical outcomes, even under demanding conditions, such as multiple priorities and short-notice deadlines
This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty librarian position.
The expected salary range for this position is $72,000 – $77,000 commensurate with experience. The position is on campus in Evansville, IN.
