The Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering offers programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering and Geomatics Engineering and the Master of Science in Civil Engineering. Civil and Geomatics Engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) which represents the major professional engineering groups in the United States.

Position Summary [ course catalog link ]:

The Civil Engineering Program seeks qualified candidate(s) to teach undergraduate courses such as:
  • CE123: Soil Engineering
  • CE123L: Soil Engineering Lab
  • CE124: Concrete Laboratory
  • CE129: Engineering Hydraulics Lab
  • CE134: Foundation Design
  • CE142L: Environmental Quality Laboratory
  • CE 191T: Railroad and Highway Geometric Design. The instructor will be responsible to teach introduction to railroad engineering with an emphasis of railroad and highway geometric design. In general, the instructor will include laying out potential railroad and highway alignments, railroad yards, and highway intersections and interchanges. Safety considerations, should also be covered. The students should be able to understand and apply these principles to railroad and highway design problems. Instructor should be able to teach the use of Bentley's MicroStation, OpenRail, and Open Roads computer software to generate and evaluate the designs.

Instructor Responsibility : Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306 , paragraph 2. Instructors are responsible for the preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading (as appropriate) lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the in the schedule of classes (i.e. asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment

Please be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work,” or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.

Appointees will be required to demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States (Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency for Temporary Faculty positions).

Salary Range - Commensurate with experience within ranks established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Lecturer AY-2358)

Anticipated Semester

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the Department. Appointments from the pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply.
  • Fall 2022: August 17, 2022- December 22, 2022;
  • Spring 2023: January 16, 2023- May 20, 2023
Qualifications for CE-129, Engineering Hydraulics Lab:

Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.): A Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or in a related area.

Experience : Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Teaching experience at the university level is not a must, but preferred.

Qualifications for CE-191T, Railroad and Highway Geometric Design:

Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.): A Master's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis of Transportation Engineering.

Experience: Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education : A PhD in Railroad Engineering.

Experience :
  • Successful teaching experience at the graduate level.
  • Expertise in a closely-related discipline.
