Position Summary

The Program of LLOD—Adult Learning, Leadership and Organization Development—at the University of Georgia is pleased to announce a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor position to begin 1 August 2023. An advanced Assistant Professor eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor would also be considered. The mission of our program is to develop leaders and scholars with deep knowledge of learning and change so they can transform their worlds. The LLOD program offers a variety of degrees including an MEd in online and hybrid formats, EdD, PhD, and two graduate certificates in Transformative Leadership and Organization Coaching.

About the College/Unit/Department

As the 4th largest public college of education in the country and the 3rd largest college at UGA, the Mary Frances Early College of Education ( MFE COE ) improves the lives of residents of Georgia and beyond through our instruction, research, and service. The MFE COE is a comprehensive college with disciplines focused on teacher preparation, counseling and human development, communication sciences, human movement sciences, career development, student affairs, and educational administration and policy. We place significant emphasis on graduate education with approximately 40% of our students at the graduate level, making us the second largest college at UGA with respect to graduate education.

Named for Mary Frances Early, UGA’s first African American graduate, in February 2020, the MFE COE has a long and distinguished history as a leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Tenure track faculty members in our department are full time 9-month (academic year) faculty members who have a strong academic background, professional experience in LLOD, and a commitment to facilitating learning, leadership, and change with adults, groups, organizations, and communities in complex, shifting, transformative times. As with all faculty positions in the department, tenure track faculty engage in scholarly activities; teach courses across LLOD programs; provide academic advising to students as assigned; and engage in service to the department, the University and the profession.

An earned doctorate at the time of employment in Adult Learning, Leadership and Organization Development or a related field such as adult education, human resource development, organization development, or leadership.

  • Demonstrated interest in adult learning, leadership, and organization development, preferably with interest in examining complex societal challenges affecting adult learners such as climate change, social injustice, or equity and inclusion.
  • An active record of scholarship and productivity in terms of peer-reviewed publications in academic journals and professional presentations commensurate with experience.
  • Evidence or strong potential for seeking and attracting external funding. Evidence of potential may include success with small-scale proposals, training/preparation relative to seeking external funds, and/or research in novel and high interest areas for funding sources.

Duties/Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to maintain a high-quality research program; seek external funding; serve as a mentor for students in research, teaching and service; direct theses and dissertations, including using action research methodology; participate in faculty governance; and contribute to the LLOD Program community and the Department of Lifelong Education, Administration, and Policy. This position requires a) teaching the equivalent of two courses per semester in the program or department and b) the delivery of face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction on our Athens, Gwinnett, and Online campuses.
