About the Position

College Outdoors is seeking qualified individuals to lead outdoor trips for groups of college students. Depending on the trip, activities may include but are not limited to hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, whitewater rafting, snowshoeing, nordic skiing, and surfing.

What You'll Do
  • Lead groups of college students on outdoor trips

  • Risk management

  • Facilitate group dynamics

  • Trip planning

  • Manage emergency situations

  • Ability to honor and work with all identities and individuals, particularly those who are underrepresented in the country and/or at Lewis & Clark College.

Must Haves
  • 1 year experience leading outdoor group trips

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

Nice to Haves
  • 3 years experience leading New Student Trips for Lewis & Clark College Outdoors

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience driving and backing trailers

  • Ability to drive LC vehicles

  • Wilderness First Responder certification or equivalent certification or experience

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to perform the physical activities of the outdoor trips. Depending on the trip, this may include lifting and carrying up to 70lbs, hiking long distance on uneven terrain, strong swimming ability in dynamic waters, and ability to lead a group in physically demanding outdoor environments.

  • Bending, crawling, knelling/squatting, twisting, Climbing (ladders/stairs), standing, driving, sitting, walking, grasping, pinching/squeezing, reaching, pushing/pulling, repetitive hand movements, seeing, talking, listening.

  • Hours/Days per week: varies depending on need

Pay Rate
  • Commensurate with experience, starting at $80 per day

Eligibility to Work

In order to comply with US Homeland Security Department regulations, all employees must complete an I-9 form in Workday prior to or no later than the first day of work and bring originals (no photocopies) of their supporting documentation to Human Resources no later than the 3rd business day of employment. Failure to have a completed I-9 form on file with the College will result in immediate termination of employment.
