Assistant Professor of Statistics, Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont.

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of statistics to begin in fall 2023. A PhD in statistics, data science, or a closely related field should normally be in hand by the time of appointment. Successful candidates will teach undergraduate courses at all levels---including the senior capstone seminar, the four-week winter term, and the first-year seminar program---and will contribute to advising and mentoring.

This addition to our faculty reflects the robust and growing interest in statistics and data science, both within our department and across the campus. Roughly 10% of all Middlebury College students enrolled in introductory data science last year. The new hire will contribute to expanding and shaping the departmental curriculum for majors and minors to pursue statistically oriented programs of study. Interdisciplinary collaborations are also available and encouraged by working in partnership with the midd.data initiative (https://www.middlebury.edu/office/midddata), which is a point of focus for the College's strategic vision. Candidates are invited to share how their interests and expertise can contribute to these ambitious goals.

At Middlebury, we strive to make our campus a respectful, engaged community that embraces difference, with all the complexity and individuality each person brings. Please include (7) a separate statement that discusses how your teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and/or community service might support our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Questions about the application process or the position can be directed to Bill Peterson (Department Chair), wpeterso@middlebury.edu.

Review of applications will begin on October 3 and continue until the position is filled. Offers of employment are contingent on completion of a background check. Information on our background check policy can be found at http://go.middlebury.edu/backgroundchecks.
