About Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine:
Kansas Health Science Center sees it as a great privilege and opportunity to open the first college of osteopathic medicine in Kansas. With the goal to build a forward-thinking medical school that becomes a world-class training hub for osteopathic physicians, Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, known as KansasCOM, has the mission to train osteopathic physicians of the future to provide effective, empathic, and innovative care while optimizing the health of patients and their communities. KansasCOM will lead in a manner that reflects its ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, community, humility and integrity, innovation, teamwork, and excellence.

KansasCOM is centrally located in the heart of Kansas’ largest city, a thriving, diverse center of culture and industry. Developing a college of osteopathic medicine is essential to meet the growing medical needs of rural locations across the United States.

The 116,000 square-foot college of osteopathic medicine and research center provides a modern space equipped with the latest technology to deliver high-quality medical education.

DO Program
Classes are now underway at the campus with 85 newly matriculated students. Different from most medical schools, the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program immerses each student in early clinical experiences starting in their first academic year. Through clinical practice, standardized patient encounters, and human-patient simulation, students will gain firsthand experience identifying and addressing patient needs. This program provides opportunities to make a difference in patients’ lives far before clinical rotations. This program’s teachings will also provide students with a foundation to work within any sector of health care they desire, apart from direct patient care positions.

COCA is the accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) for predoctoral education of osteopathic physicians in the United States.

Pre-accreditation, as distinct from full accreditation, permits the KansasCOM to solicit applications and admit students, offer medical instruction within the approved osteopathic medical curriculum, and announce its Pre-Accreditation Status. KansasCOM can be considered for full accreditation status following the graduation of its first class, which it anticipates will occur in May 2026. The attainment of full accreditation status is subject to review and approval by COCA.
