Description

Oversees the College insurance program ensuring adequacy of coverage for all College activities, programs and facilities. This includes, but is not limited to property and casualty, general liability, fleet liability, student health, recreation, and special events. Reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environments and designs program and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injury, disease, hazards, and other serious harm caused by chemicals, biological, physical and/or ergonomic factors.

Duties
  • Oversees the Colleges insurance program ensuring adequacy of coverage for all College activities, programs and facilities.
  • Works systematically with internal stakeholders to develop department-specific risk management practices consistent with best practices and campus policies.
  • Creates, reviews, updates, edits and implements policies. Amends policies or procedures when policy is ineffective.
  • Facilitates accident and injury investigations to include assessment of procedures and physical conditions.
  • Creates loss reports and other reports when tasked.
  • Reports and monitors all claims with insurance carriers through closure.
  • Maintain the database and insurance schedules of all College-owned and leased vehicles, ensuring registration renewals and title transfers.
  • Oversees the Colleges motor vehicle policy, including driver background checks and driver training programs. Annually disseminate vehicle insurance information to authorized drivers.
  • Serves as the main contact for all insurance-related issues.
  • Assists in the creation of required training when necessary.
  • Conducts inspections of laboratories, outdoor premises and facilities to ensure compliance with regulations, policy and procedure as well as implements Best Management Practices.
  • Oversees the Life Safety Program and involved contracts including fire panel monitoring. This requires adhering to site specific Fire Prevention Plan, following building code and NFPA code as well as OSHA fire codes.
  • Coordinates the implementation of EPA, DEP, and OSHA required programs.
  • Management of facility storage tank program, including inspections, reporting and recordkeeping.
  • Attends construction, renovation and demolition meetings to ensure proper disposal of any hazardous materials.
  • Administers hazardous, universal and non-hazardous waste programs, including routine inspections and monitoring while ensuring safety of themselves and others.
  • Manages Safety Data Sheets (SDS) of Hazardous Materials per OSHAs HAZCOM standard.
  • Provides training concerning safety materials and other chemicals to faculty, staff and students.
  • Procures labpack supplies, labels and schedules hazardous, universal, and electronic waste pickups.
  • Identifies and assesses workplace hazards and implements corrective measures.
  • Attends Directors Meetings and Safety/Risk Management Committee meetings.
  • Drives College vehicles/ carts.
ADDITONAL RESPONSIBILITES:
Performs other college-related duties as may be required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree in related field
  • Three to five years of experience overseeing an agency insurance program
  • Three to five years environmental site management experience, or under the direct supervision of trained professional
  • Three to five years OSHA/NFPA and other health and safety related regulatory program experience implemented in higher education facility
  • Valid Drivers License

  • Self-motivated and self-sustaining, does not need a lot of oversight and finishes work ahead of deadlines
  • Creative and innovative to ensure quality of the campus is always improving
  • Hard worker that is willing to put in extra hours and respond to emails or messages in off hours when necessary
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preferred Masters degree in EHS, Occupational Health and Safety, degree in a science related field or Environmental/Resource policy or economics
  • ARM and CPCU certification desired
  • Environmental Compliance certification preferred; CHMM, ASP or CSP, UST Class A operator, RCRA Hazardous Waste Operations, DOT HazMat Shipper and DOT HazMat security
  • OSHA 40 HAZWOPER HazMat Technician, NIMS Training,
  • Emergency Response Experience
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Moderately heavy work: exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions.
