Williams College Human Resources seeks an energetic, collaborative, and process oriented professional to serve as a key member of the department’s management team. Reporting to the Director of Compensation, Benefits, and HR Systems, the Assistant Director for Benefits and Wellbeing oversees the development, implementation, and administration employee benefits and wellbeing initiatives for approximately 1,300 faculty, staff, and retirees. The Assistant Director will also have the opportunity to serve as a member of the HR team for our upcoming enterprise systems implementation that will support the dynamic needs of our campus.



This is a highly collaborative role that aims to distill complex concepts, analyze trends, advance departmental goals, and present materials in a relevant manner for planning purposes related to Open Enrollment, the Benefits Committee, Wellness Committee, and the Retirement Governance Committee. Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Educate and inform participants and managers on offerings, policies, and regulations through one-on-one meetings, web content, open enrollment materials, trainings and workshops, presentations, and other various forms of communication
  • Mentor and supervise the Benefits Specialist, including coaching and ongoing professional development
  • Maintain effective broker and vendor relationships
  • Ensure that the benefits programs and wellbeing initiatives support the diverse needs of staff and faculty, and establish practices for evaluating existing benefits programs against peer institutions to determine competitiveness, trends and developments
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to inform plan design and administration decisions for the self-funded health and dental plans - regularly review claims and other cost drivers with the Benefits Committee, anticipating the impact on setting employee premiums
  • Responsible for oversight of Leave Administration,Worker’s Compensation claims, and Tuition Grant programs
  • Participate in quarterly budget analysis and review process
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of processes, documents, tools, and workflows to ensure data quality, process effectiveness, and compliance with program and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate audits and compliance activities, including non-discrimination testing, Form 5500 filing, Summary Annual Reports, and annual FAS112 reporting with the Finance Office
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of federal and state regulations involving employee benefits including FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, and 403(b) as they apply to the college’s benefits
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of wellness plan related regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all related federal and state laws
  • Lead Benefits and Wellness Committees, serve as the administrator of the Retirement Plan Governance Committee

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with five years or more of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with proven ability to interpret data that connects to business terms and outcomes
  • Possess the ability to cultivate trust and generate enthusiasm among diverse constituencies and individuals
  • Must have the ability to exhibit excellent customer service, integrity, and confidentiality when working with both internal and external customers to develop and maintain highly effective relationships
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects and competing priorities while balancing the need for quality with meeting deadlines; keen ability to multi-task and prioritize work deliverables as needs evolve
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to address small and large groups
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft, WorkDay or other human resources systems is preferred
  • Human resources certifications are preferred (e.g. SHRM-CP, SPHR, PHR, etc.)
