Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $57,600 – $96,200. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs ( OSRP ), the Assistant Director of OSRP Awards Management and Compliance, will be responsible for the oversight and management of all grants and contracts awarded by federal, state, and other sources in the OSRP office. The Assistant Director will establish and communicate sponsored program administration policies & procedures, and are responsible for the establishment of an efficient and compliant post-award infrastructure

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of non-financial post-award operations in OSRP and strategies for sponsored projects, including planning and implementing appropriate policies, processes and controls to comply with regulations, funding agency policies, and College policies.
  • Independently provide individual direction and problem-solving for team members on a daily basis, including judging when to escalate problems to the Director
  • Act as the primary resource in OSRP to all MSU Denver’s community members on the management of any external funding.
  • Review all RFA or NOA for for adequate documentation applicable regulations according to the Agency guidelines. Communicate with SPAC any budget and/or programmatic specific regulations to ensure budgetary controls are established so awards are not exceeded. .
  • Assure that adequate procedures are in place to monitor any sub-recipients programmatic (science) progress and their compliance with sub-award provisions.
  • Keep institutional compliance current, e.g. IRB, Conflict of Interest, Federal-wide Assurances, etc.
  • Provide support and training to all grant stakeholders on how to more efficiently manage the programmatic items in their respective grants while adhering to University policy, granting agency guidelines, and all applicable federal regulations.
  • Prepare materials for and act as primary liaison for OSRP with external auditors for desk audits and external agency audits.
  • Serve as backup for the pre-award budget development and grant submission process.
  • Partner with appropriate College offices, particularly SPAC, to manage, develop, and implement policies, processes, and systems for all aspects of award management.
  • Investigate grant administration process improvements and develop grants-management and administration strategies for OSRP to benefit the University, with an institution-wide perspective
  • Other duties and functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong accounting skills
  • Master’s degree
  • At least seven years of pre/post-award sponsored research experience, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Knowledge of the Uniform Guidance (formerly known as A-21, A-110, A-133) compliance requirements and Federal Acquisition Regulation
  • Knowledge of federal agency policies (e.g. NSF, NIH, Dept of Ed, HRSA )
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Excel and database management
  • Ability to respond to a wide variety and volume of requests from numerous individuals in a timely and professional manner
  • Strong focus on attention to detail and accuracy
  • Independent thinker and analytical problem solver
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes and enhance systems
  • Effective negotiation, analytical, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Research Administrator ( CRA )
  • Experience with budgeting multiyear complex awards
  • Experience with Banner/Workday and Cayuse
  • Demonstrated experience working with sponsored research and undergraduate
    research programs, including Human Subjects Review Committees ( HSRC ) and/or
    Institutional Review Boards ( IRB ).
  • Demonstrated membership in a professional organization such as SRA and NCURA
  • Documented success in providing oversight and hands-on involvement in all
    aspects of the grant life cycle including writing grant proposals, post-award
    implementation, fiscal management and reporting, and growing a funding portfolio.
