Job Description:

We invite applications for "Read On: Teaching Reading Literacy in Chinese," a STARTALK program for teachers of Chinese as a foreign language (CFL), focusing on incorporating research-supported best practices in reading literacy instruction in the CFL curriculum. Applicants must have at least 2 years of full-time CFL teaching experience at the middle school, high school, or college level in the United States, and they must be US citizens or legal residents who will be teaching CFL in the US in the 2023-2024 academic year.

The program consists of three required parts:

Part 1: March-April 2023 (fully on-line, self-paced instruction and synchronous meetings)

Part 2: July 18-July 25, 2023 (in-person, residential teacher camp, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts)

Part 3: December 2023-February 2024 (fully on-line, synchronous and asynchronous)

For Part 2, the Program provides air, bus, or train travel between each participant's home in the US and the College of the Holy Cross, meals during the program (including daily dinners at area restaurants), and single occupancy accommodation in air-conditioned apartment-style dormitories. Residency is required for the entire Part 2 of the program. We cannot accommodate family members or companions.

The program will be led by Claudia Ross (Program Director) Meng Yeh (Instructional Lead), Team Leaders: Sara Chao, Pei-Chia Chen, Brooke Cheng, Baozhang He, Peng Ke, Shiffon Xuefeng Theodorou.


Requirements:

1. At least 2 years of experience teaching at grade level in the United States.
2. Citizenship or legal residence in the United States.
3. A teaching appointment in the US for the 2023-2024 academic year.
