Human Resources Classification & Compensation Specialist/Generalist

JOB SUMMARY:Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Classification & Compensation Specialist is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of a market-based compensation system (CUPA) in support of the campus salary administration efforts. This position will be responsible for providing compensation analysis. Primary job duties will include providing technical and analytical support in the area of classification and compensation, including analyzing and evaluating jobs to determine the market rate assignment, reviewing employee wage rates, and providing wage recommendations based on a set of parameters. Other duties include submission of salary data for salary surveys, conducting compensation market analyses, routine reporting, and ensuring maintenance of compensation analysis systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Research compensation policies and plans
  • Help conduct market (CUPA) job & salary analyses every 2-3 years, comparing employee positions and salaries with the current market salaries.
  • Perform data collection and provide analysis to support requests.
  • Compile and report employee salary and demographic information to enter into the yearly CUPA survey.
  • Maintain CUPA information for all employees.
  • Evaluate position descriptions to determine classification and salary
  • Create and maintain job descriptions for Athens State employees.
  • Update organizational charts yearly.
  • Collect information for and complete the Human Resources Annual Assessment Plan and Annual Assessment Report.
  • Enter new adjunct information into the Banner system and set up files, and scan all adjunct/overload contracts into Banner.
  • Enter new employee and terminated employee information into the Guardian Insurance system and verify and approve Guardian bills.
  • Assist with employment agreements.
  • Assist with the determining of FLSA status of positions.
  • Assist with the yearly Presidential and Meritorious Awards.
  • Assist in the daily operations of the Human Resources office.
  • Input personnel data in Banner, E-Verify and AL Dept. of Industrial Relations.
  • Enter leave forms into banner and assist employees with help on leave forms. File leave forms in employee files.
  • Perform accounts payable duties, primarily Educator Benefits, TIAA, and Horace Mann.
  • Assist with the setup and verification of FMLA files.
  • Scan personnel and payroll related documents.
  • Pull reports from ARGOS for payroll reports to AMSTI and the Department of Labor.
  • Assist with Tuition Waivers.
  • Assist with employment verification requests for Security Clearance and Unemployment.
  • Notify new employees of required training in Edu-Risk, and register new employees in United Educators portal.
  • Assist with special projects and reports as needed for HR.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Comply with all policies of the University.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need.
  • Actively works towards building cooperative and collaborative relationships with peers and internal faculty and staff.
  • Maintains “open door” to internal and external customers.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements to work practices and offers viable solutions for implementation.
  • Proactively engages in problem solving related to tasks in this position with internal and external people.
  • Routinely practices self-monitoring by assessing self to make improvements or take corrective action to improve performance.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required.• Human Resources experience required in a college/university setting, 3 to 5 years preferred.• Strong math skills.• Demonstrated competence with the Windows operating system and commonly used application software (Microsoft Office WORD, Excel, etc.) required.
