Job Description:

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Prior Performing Arts Center, the Director of Arts Transcending Borders (ATB) is responsible for identifying and implementing visiting artist residencies at the College of the Holy Cross as well as fostering relationships between visiting artists and a wide range of programs, departments, and student organizations. As such, the Director will work closely with the Departments of Theatre & Dance, Music, and Visual Arts, as well as the Creative Writing Program, the Montserrat Program, and the Cantor Art Gallery in developing residencies. In addition, the Director will collaborate with other academic departments, programs, and offices on campus to maximize the pedagogical impact of ATB residencies.

The Director of ATB will engage with members of the broader arts and Central Massachusetts communities for artistic and pedagogical collaborations; work with the Office of Administration and Finance to manage the program's budget and grants; and oversee the ATB Fellow and ATB Ambassadors Program, a group of student workers who help facilitate ATB programming.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with ATB's Steering Committee and the Executive Director to identify prospective visiting artists
  • Negotiate contracts with visiting artists and/or their representatives
  • Collaborate with the Director of Production and technical staff in evaluating technical riders and space availability
  • Supervise all aspects of the work of the ATB Fellow (whose position supports the Director), including annual reviews
  • Work with the visiting artists and the ATB Fellow to plan residency itineraries
  • Plan and manage documentation of program events
  • Develop collaborations with a wide range of departments and centers on campus
  • Coordinate and publicize initiatives associated with the visiting artists and ATB's yearly theme
  • Develop and implement an overall plan to coordinate ATB programming with that of the Worcester Arts Community
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local schools and other community organizations
  • Manage all components of the program budget
  • Pursue collaborative projects and funding opportunities with regional arts organizations; identify grant opportunities and develop proposals; and work with the Office of Administration and Finance to ensure compliance with grant requirements
  • Write an annual report to the College to highlight the program's work over the academic year
  • Liaise with College Office of Advancement

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in arts administration either academic or professional
  • MA in arts administration or related field preferred
  • Excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational & administrative skills, and ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and talent for implementation of objectives
  • Proficiency with social media, web design and publishing and Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Budgetary experience and strong analytical skills
  • Experience working with grants
  • Flexibility in work schedule to adjust for evening and or weekend events as needed
  • An understanding of the contemporary higher education environment and of relevant trends, innovations, and challenges that impact it.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, exempt-level level position with an annual salary. The College is committed to providing competitive market pay for its employees. The annual salary for this position ranges from $70,000 - $74,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
