The President’s Office is seeking a Chief of Staff. The Chief of Staff is charged with maximizing the effectiveness of the Office of the President with respect to operations, budgets, communications and interactions with key internal and external constituencies.

This is achieved through the following key areas:

Leadership:

  • Serves as a member of the President’s Senior Leadership Group, Cabinet, and University Management Team. In doing so, works closely with the President, Cabinet, and other senior administrators to support the President’s institutional responsibilities.
  • Hires, supervises and trains Office of the President staff, creating workflows and projects that anticipate or respond to needs of the President.
  • Convenes the Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment, and Discriminatory Employment/Service Practices appeal review panel, as part of the University’s third-step grievance process.

Relationship Development:

  • Manages presidential engagements; advises the President on strategy and briefing materials, to prepare for delivering messages to various stakeholders.
  • Strengthens relationships Trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other campus units in support of the President, ensuring alignment with the Office of the President.
  • Serves on various cross-functional teams and programs to promote the vision and direction of the President and University.

Institutional Planning:

  • Participates with the President and other senior officers in institutional planning, policy development and problem resolution. Provides advice and insights to the President for decision-making.

The ideal candidate for the Chief of Staff will bring over 7 years of experience leading teams and effectively managing multiple programs and projects, often with competing priorities. This individual will also have experience networking and cultivating relationships, partnerships and alliances.

 

Having worked within a large, matrixed organization is helpful, as well as an understanding of complex budget systems and financial models. Candidates will also need to demonstrate their experience, or commitment to, fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment.
