Duties and Responsibilities
Applicant will be responsible for teaching undergraduate level coursework and the associated lab components in Human Anatomy & Physiology. This upper-level course ( BIOL 311 – Human Anatomy & Physiology I and BIOL 312 – Human Anatomy & Physiology II) is taken by upperclassmen in the Department of Natural Sciences and freshmen/sophomores in the Department of Nursing. This position is for in-person instruction in the Department of Natural Sciences at Bowie State University.
The upper-level BIOL 311 (Anatomy & Physiology I) class will cover the definitions and scope of major topics in Human Anatomy & Physiology, including but not limited to: chemical level of organization, cellular level of organization, tissue level of organization, integumentary system, skeletal tissue (bone tissue, axial system, appendicular system), joints, muscular tissue, the nervous system, the spinal cord and spinal nerves, the brain and cranial nerves, the autonomic nervous system, and the sensory/motor systems.
The upper-level BIOL 312 (Anatomy & Physiology II)class will cover the definitions and scope of major topics in Human Anatomy & Physiology, including but not limited to: the endocrine system, blood/hematocrit, the heart, heart anatomy, blood vessels, the cardiovascular system (blood vessels and hemodynamics), the respiratory system, the renal system, the gastrointestinal tract, metabolism, and reproduction.
The chosen candidate for either or both classes should demonstrate a robust plan for implementing innovative laboratory experiences and incorporating high-impact engagement in the classroom.
This is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required for this position. The University reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities to meet organizational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Master’s Degree or higher with at least 15 graduate credits in Biology, Applied Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, or related fields with specialization in Physiology. Completion of 30 hrs in an accredited doctoral program is acceptable.
Doctoral Degree in Anatomy and Physiology, Biology with emphasis on Anatomy and Physiology, or Doctoral Degree in Nursing or Nursing Practitioner, or closely related field is preferred.
Experience
Teaching experience at the college level in the area of concentration strongly preferred. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds. Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs. Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required materials: Unofficial transcripts, cover letter, CV/resume, and three reference contacts. Please provide evidence of demonstrated success in teaching.
