Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Natural Sciences is seeking excellent candidates for aChemistry Program Laboratory Coordinator. The successful candidate will provide laboratory coordinator for undergraduate students in introductory courses, core courses, as well as upper-level electives courses. Our student-focused department requires a candidate with strong commitment to excellence in laboratory coordination, as well as a great appreciation for experiential learning to support our current models for high-impact practice in undergraduate STEM education. The candidate will:
- Prepare and set-up materials and equipment for use in student laboratory experiments.
- Maintain inventory of lab chemicals.
- Maintain records of chemicals and supplies purchased for lab experiments.
- Maintain, and supervise proper use of laboratory equipment and instrumentation ( NMR, GCMS, FT-IR, HPLC, etc.).
- Monitor and dispose of chemical waste.
- Oversee implementation of lab safety protocols and equipment.
Education
A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Chemistry required. Master’s in Chemistry or related field preferred.
Experience
A minimum of (1) one year of experience working with various stakeholders, such as students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Experience working with underrepresented minorities in STEM .
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Knowledge or expertise of common laboratory procedures.
- Knowledge of chemical classification, chemical reactions, and interactions.
- Understanding of Material Safety and Data Safety information.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work in teams.
- Capable of supporting collaborative research programs involving undergraduate students.
- Experience working with various stakeholders, such as students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Experience working with underrepresented minorities in STEM .
