WittKieffer is proud to be supporting SUNY Cortland in the search for its next provost and vice president of academic affairs (provost). A top public university of approximately 6,600 students located in the geographic center of New York State, SUNY Cortland provides accessible, affordable education to students from across the U.S. The next provost will build on SUNY Cortland’s long history of academic excellence, promote academic research and scholarship, and strategically lead initiatives to expand opportunities for SUNY Cortland’s increasingly diverse student body.

Please review WittKieffer’s detailed Leadership Profile . Major Responsibilities
One of 13 comprehensive colleges in the State University of New York system, SUNY Cortland prides itself on its rigorous undergraduate and graduate programs in the liberal arts, sciences, education, and professional studies. For more than 150 years, SUNY Cortland has provided unmistakable value for students seeking a well-rounded academic, athletic, and social experience. The university ranks among the top campuses in the nation on Money magazine’s “Best Colleges for Your Money List,” fields a powerhouse Division III athletics program and boasts an impressive network of alumni making a difference in education, business, government, fitness, medicine and many other fields.

SUNY Cortland’s Division of Academic Affairs spans most of the academic and administrative functions of the university, and the provost will manage a diverse and wide-ranging portfolio. The Division includes the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education and the School of Professional Studies. The division also includes Admissions, Advisement and Transition, Extended Learning, Information Resources, Institute for Civic Engagement, The Learning Center, Institutional Research and Analysis, International Programs, Libraries, Research and Sponsored Programs, Student Registration and Records Services, and the W. H. Parks Family Center for Environmental and Outdoor Education. This position reports directly to the President and serves as a key member of the President’s Cabinet.

The next provost at SUNY Cortland will arrive on campus during a period of ongoing stability and success. The campus continues to meet overall enrollment targets and enjoys, compared to many of its peers, financial stability in this challenging time. While these achievements provide a firm foundation, there are complex challenges that will need to be addressed, including many facing similar institutions: threats to enrollment, state budget uncertainty, recruitment of diverse students and faculty and the delivery of higher education in the 21st century.
