Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY
The HVAC Lab Technician position provides support for the Chairperson and HVAC faculty/adjuncts. This support includes inventory/preparation/ordering of consumables and tools, general cleaning of the lab, and assisting with lab tours, as necessary. The technician performs simple preventive maintenance as needed, handling/disposing of hazardous chemicals, routine cleaning, and maintaining inventory records.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Lab Inventory & Facilities
Stores tools following use. Cleans tools, equipment, and floor. Cleans and maintains lab area. Opens and closes lab at shift end and ensures equipment is stored in the proper location to secure HVAC Technology lab. Ensures tools, equipment, and training aids are functional, operational, and performs needed diagnostic service and minor repairs. Replaces tools and equipment when necessary. Utilizes College approved contractors to ensure proper handling of hazardous materials.

Maintains and updates inventory of tools, special service kits, and equipment and stock items. Monitors disbursements, orders needed items, and obtains bid offers on new equipment. Keeps accurate records. Completes and maintains required documentation including inventory reports, work orders, and requisitions. Monitors lab supply usage by section and suggests lab fee changes.

Program Support
Prepares new training aids for laboratory use. Assists instructors. Obtains and returns training materials, sets up training aids, and arranges equipment.

Knowledge of: HVAC technology programs, standard construction supplies, associated tools and equipment, routine equipment and tool maintenance, and minor repair methods; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook; basic research techniques to locate suppliers, availability, and costs for materials.

Skill in: verbal and written communications; operation of job-related equipment; application of technical skills in applied technologies.

Ability to: work independently, demonstrating initiative; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, job contacts, students, and the general public; perform light manual labor for extended periods; maintain accurate and complete work records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalency with technical or vocational construction training.

One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in various construction trades, or specific HVAC training.

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
