Summary of Job Duties:Primary responsibility will be plumbing related. Additional duties may be performing work in one or more of the following skilled trades: HVAC mechanical (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), carpentry, construction, and painting. Regular and reliable attendance is essential to the job. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities Maintenance.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Work Experience: Minimum qualifications include Journeymen’s Plumbing Licenses, high school diploma or equivalent; three years of experience in general plumbing activities; stable work history; valid driver’s license. Other job-related education, experience, or licensure may be substituted for part of the required experience. Construction or HVAC experience is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a list of typical functions:
  • May assemble, install, repair, and maintain pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing equipment and systems used for water distribution and wastewater disposal in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings in compliance with code regulations. These systems are vital to the safety comfort and general wellbeing of students and employees.
  • May perform general carpentry using hand and power tools to repair and build structures using necessary materials, such as wood, sheetrock, roofing, painting.
  • May assist other skilled tradesman to complete projects that require multiple departments to work together.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork. Requires consistent on-time attendance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in Plumbing skilled trades.
  • Basic knowledge of the laws and safety regulation’s relating to Plumbing skilled trades.
  • Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates in the field of Plumbing.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain inventory on needed parts and tools.
  • Ability to work on ladders, in man lifts, and willing to work from heights as required.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work.

Working Relationships: Frequent contact with supervisors, peers, staff, and faculty, and outside contractors.

Special Job Dimensions: Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a frequent basis, and able to bend, stoop, and stand during shifts of eight hours or more. Other physical activities associated with this position: balancing, crouching, driving, manipulate items with fingers- including keyboard, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, stooping, and walking. Occasional overtime will be required, including evening and weekend assignments. There will be some exposure to inclement weather. On-call duty will be required. Overtime required for special events. Responsible for furnishing basic hand tools.
