Summary of Job Duties:Balances strategic oversight and day-to-day operations for the Family Enterprise Center (FEC) at University of Arkansas Fort Smith (UAFS). Provides consulting support and educational opportunities for family business and associate members. Plans and delivers nationally recognized, inclusive programming in family business and small enterprise. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Center for Economic Development.

Qualifications:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and improve current programs, events, publications, outreach activities, and networking opportunities using available technologies.
  • Strengthen existing member relationships and provide expanded membership opportunities through diverse programming.
  • Design new initiatives that generate value for members.
  • Develop and implement a long-term marketing strategy for FEC that attracts regional and national attention to programming.
  • Identify and coordinate prospects for collaboration with regionally and nationally recognized family enterprise entities.
  • Oversee a budget that generates funding relevant to family enterprising and business development as well as other sources of revenue enhancement.
  • Serve as an advocate of family business development, expansion, and retention in the area, thereby becoming a visible leader in the local business community.
  • Interact regularly with FEC advisory board and peer groups.
  • Create opportunities for faculty and student engagement with FEC stakeholders.
  • Engage in public relations activities such as speeches, presentations, active committee participation, and direct discussions
  • Represent UAFS at community events and regular attendance at professional association meetings; i.e., Chamber, etc.
  • Establish effective working relations with other departments and colleges of the university.
  • Communicate with the Executive Director of the Center for Economic Development on a regular basis.
Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Attendance and participation in faculty and administrative meetings/events as required.
  • Maintains strong working relationship with faculty and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership. Requires consistent on-time attendance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:

  • Self-starting, proactive, and able to carry out tasks independently
  • Familiarity with academic institutions and businesses (preferably family business).
  • Experience in developing, coordinating, and teaching seminars.
  • Experience in grant writing and/or fundraising
  • Able to communicate effectively with a diverse population (family business owners, entrepreneurs, practitioners, faculty, staff, and students).
  • Willingness to participate in local activities within UAFS and the business community.
  • Superior leadership and managerial skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
Required Education and/or Work Experience: Master’s degree with family business experience. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Experience in higher education or coordinating/directing business outreach center; managerial experience in running a family or small business preferred.

Additional Information:

Working Relationships: Maintain positive collaboration with FEC family and associate members as well as CED team. Has frequent contact with University staff, faculty, and students. Frequent contact with personnel from other agencies, institutions, and the general public.

List Employees Supervised: None.

Special Job Dimensions: Work performed primarily in an office/classroom setting. Must be able to travel occasionally. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. Required abilities include walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods. Visual demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee occasionally lifts items up to 10 pounds. Routine office hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Background Check Requirements: Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) check.

Salary Information:

$75,000/Year
