Position Summary: 

This is a full-time 9-month tenure-track position with an 80% teaching, 10% service, and 10% scholarship appointment. The position is in the Department of Agriculture and Tourism within the College of Business and Economic Development.  The anticipated start date is January 3, 2023.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary duty will be to develop, teach and assess undergraduate courses in agriculture, especially horticulture and agronomy.

Additional duties will include engaging students in high-impact learning practices; effectively advising and mentoring undergraduate students, including advising student organizations related to agriculture; providing impactful departmental, college, university, and professional service to the university, community, and state; developing a sustainable scholarship program including seeking external funds to support the program.

The ability to work in a multi-disciplinary department of agriculture is expected.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The successful candidate will have expertise to support the undergraduate Agricultural Business degree with primary focus on courses in agronomy/plant sciences, forages, soils and fertility management, as well as courses based on interests and programmatic needs.

The incumbent will be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students, and to engage with appropriate student organizations.

The faculty member will have an interest in or experience with faculty-student collaborative research, scholarship, and creative activity at the undergraduate level.

Faculty members are expected to accomplish a record of scholarly achievement, including (but not limited to) mentoring of undergraduate research projects, grant writing and establish a regional, and ultimately externally-funded research program in keeping with the objectives of the Department of Agriculture & Tourism at Arkansas Tech University.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. degree in agricultural economics, agricultural business, or related discipline. ABD candidates will be considered.

Experience in and/or knowledge of US agriculture industries (agronomy/plant science/horticulture)

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in college-level teaching methods

Experience teaching and mentoring students in face-to-face classroom setting 

Demonstrated ability to design college-level coursework

Knowledge of the U.S. agribusiness and food sector

Experience in and/or knowledge of agronomy/plant science/horticulture industry

Ability to inspire and motivate students 

Mentorship or advising of student and professional organizations

Demonstrate professional development and leadership at discipline, university, or industry level

Demonstrate the ability to publish of research in the academic press 

Demonstrate the potential to obtain extramural funding to support research and outreach programs 

Evidence of or potential for fostering an inclusive environment for diverse populations.

Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:

This position is located in offices, classrooms, and labs at ATU. The assigned desk and computer may be in a location that is in a different building than the classroom location, so the position requires the ability to change location and/or walk moderate distances during the day. Required activities include teaching, lecture and lab activities, sitting for extended periods, use of a keyboard and mouse, and the use of standard office equipment.
