Job Summary

Facilities Management at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Roofer ! This role will provide journey level roofing support to include roof repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, plans, and drawing reviews, construction inspections, and construction standard reviews. Work in conjunction with campus partners which include project managers, outside consultants, and engineering groups. Be responsible for the repair, preventive maintenance, replacement, fabrication (metal and wood based) and inspection of the structural aspects of all of the Campus’ academic buildings. This includes but is not limited to the building envelope, roofs, gutters, downspouts, windows and all interior aspects of a building. During inclement weather assist with painting, carpentry, concrete, masonry and the fabrication of all structural related components.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Roofing Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform roof repairs to include removing and replacing tiles, shingles, flashing, analyzing built-up roofing systems and single ply roofing systems to resolve locations of roof leaks, and emergency repairs.
  • Monitor and maintain roofing material inventory.
  • Settle sequence order while completing a specific task with non-journey level employees.
  • Decide safety procedures required when completing a given task.
  • Resolve what type of material is required for roofing maintenance/repair to be used.
  • Determine what affect work will have on those within the building, the workgroup, and budgets, and build/prioritize a list of repair and replacement schedules.
  • Supervise and maintain roofing material inventory for repair programs.
Preventive Maintenance
  • Provide preventive maintenance activities to include periodic maintenance activities, roof inspections, inspections with specialized equipment such as an infrared camera, and the use of a capacitance meter as a second non-destructive measure to detect moisture.
  • Figure out what type of preventive maintenance testing should be conducted, and what sequence to follow when evaluating and inspecting roofing systems.
  • Implement safety procedures required when performing regularly scheduled thermography scans of the roofing system.
  • Resolve what types of materials should be used and where test cuts need to be taken.
Annual Major Inspection & Repair Program
  • Coordinate the annual major inspection/repair program, operate special equipment such as Versa-lift, forklift, hoist, hi-lift to high elevations for roofing and other trade's work, and act as the journey-level on-site roofer for the program.
  • Perform an annual inspection/repair program, settling safety procedures and determining sequence of inspection/repairs, and instruct during the program. Resolve what repairs and materials are needed based on the results of the annual inspection.
Sheet Metal Work
  • Perform sheet metal work which includes installing sheet metal flashing, counter flashing, gutter brackets, ice guards and other fixtures to roofing systems and buildings by designing, copying, and fabricating.
  • Determine what sequence the inspection and repairs should take place, and instruct other employees during the repair.
  • Determine if the work is standard or specialized due to the building’s architecture, and mentor others during the course of the design, fabrication, and repair.
  • Use standard trade practices, blue prints, drawing, copying, and use the National Roofing Contractors Specification to determine if a specification needs to be fabricated ‘as is’ or should be adjusted for better performance and aesthetic.
Project Support
  • Provide support for projects, including small remodel projects, renewal and replacement projects, large capital projects and other similar projects. This may include reviewing project documents (drawings, specifications, component submittals and requests for information) reviewing outage notification requests, performing outages related to projects, performing quality assurance inspections, attending project walks, performing equipment start up and final commissioning of new project. These inspections are not code-based inspections, however certain aspects of codes could be referenced during the inspection.
Paperwork & Scheduling
  • Responsible for completing material issuance requests and purchase requests to procure needed material. Limited to a $1,000 per event purchase without the approval of the supervisor.
  • Include closing comments when closing work orders and ensure any repair work orders are created.
  • Will drive a University vehicle and carry tools and materials.
Safety
  • Actively participate in safety meetings.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures and guidelines, and adhere to Standing Operating Procedures for assignments and use of equipment.
  • Participate in and complete all safety trainings. Report potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents and/or procedural violations to supervisor.

  • This full-time position’s expected schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.

  • The salary range for this position $49,050 – $51,502 annually.

What We Require
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in commercial roofing.
  • Substitution: Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher-level coursework from an accredited, non-correspondence, vocational or trades school appropriate to the work assignment will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. At the agency’s discretion, demonstrated proficiency on position competencies may substitute for the required experience.
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Must be a Colorado resident to apply.
