Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder Athletic Department encourages applications for the Assistant Athletic Director - CU Events Center and Game Day Operations ! This role supports the athletic department with a primary focus on Athletic Facility and Event Management. This position provides professional assistance to the Associate AD of Game Operations and Events, focusing on events taking place at the CU Events Center, as well as assigned Olympic sports, and will also be responsible for the daily supervision and coordination of the Athletic Facilities which will include event preparation and event and facility management.
This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

CU Event Center Operations and Maintenance:
  • Responsible for identify and schedule maintenance of the CU Events Center in conjunction with staff, University Facilities Management and outside contractors. Duties include preparing documents for submission for work requests with University Facility Management, supervising and managing budget control of work requests, supervising vendors and contractors during projects, identifying areas of improvement for future consideration, tracking inventory of attic stock and equipment, determining cost preventative measures when planning areas of interest for improvement and suggesting areas of need for maintenance within the facility.
  • Maintain and prepare CU Events Center for all events including intercollegiate events, campus events, special events and outside events. Responsibilities include but are not limited to setting up for the event, assisting areas of need during the event, and breaking down the event.
  • Administer and manage the CU Events Center schedule for athletic events, practices and outside events.
  • Lead the scheduling of building maintenance by ensuring the CU Events Center meets health and safety requirements every day. Also, supervise the daily facility management by planning the utilization of space and resources within existing infrastructures. Follow-up on agreed work in conjunction with the Director of Athletic Facilities to determine which contractors have completed satisfactorily.
  • Facilitate the generating of revenue by scheduling special events in the facility.
  • Manage relationships with external cleaning vendors that assist events by being the main point of contact during their operation at the CU Events Center. Ensure schedules, staffing, and expectations are agreed upon and implemented. Manage all billing and payments for accuracy and efficiency. Meet with contract custodial leadership regularly to look at performance and explore any needed improvements.
Event and Facility Management:
  • Responsible for the creation, implementation, and execution of all assigned athletic department events.
  • Facilitate the successful hosting and game day operations for assigned Athletic Department home games and events, including basketball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, and track.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of the football game day plan in conjunction with the Assistant AD for Stadium Operations.
  • Be responsible for event planning and management of outside users of the CU Events Center. Events include but may not be limited to: CU graduations, high school graduations, Convocation, and Student Affairs programming.
  • Create standards to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of all events.
  • Work closely with the athletic business office, development office, and individual partners.
  • Functional responsibilities include coordination of security and parking/traffic for assigned home games; vendor and concessions management; table and booth crew; liaison for visiting teams and officials; and other responsibilities necessary to provide a customer.
  • Coordinate with appropriate departments of Athletics for various needs pertaining to assigned games and matches.
  • Coordinate with University of Colorado Facilities Management for all aspects of game management and support.
Budget Oversight:
  • Manage the CU Events Center budget and assigned game operations budgets in coordination with the Associate Athletic Director for Game Operations and Events.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive business and financial plans.
  • Continuously review the expenditures of the assigned facilities and operations staff to ensure compliance with University and State rules/regulations.
Supervision:
  • Provide leadership, supervision and direction for assigned staff.
  • Plan, assign and review work, and establish goals for each position to assess performance.
  • Develop framework for productive work efficiencies.
  • Directly supervise the Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities, Events & Guest Relations, the Athletic Facilities and Events Program Manager; Athletic Events and Facilities Intern, (2) Structural Trades II and (15) Facilities Student Staff and Game Day Event Staff.
Guest Relations Program:
  • Provide leadership and supervision over the Guest Relations Program managed by the Assistant Director of Athletic Events, Facilities and Guest Relations. Provide direction for the recruitment, training and planning of the Guest Relations program, looking for ways to ensure the best game day experience for patrons at Athletic department events.
Emergency Management:
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise. Urgent issues that come up might not be expected. These issues may not be facility related, but may be athletic program related in regards to practices and competitions. Emergency issues will be resolved on a case by case basis, but nonetheless are the highest of priorities and should be dealt with accordingly.

  • This position will work significant evening and weekend hours.
  • Position will drive university vehicles and must be able to pass a motor vehicle background check.

What We Can Offer
  • The salary range for this position is $71,000-$77,000 annually.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Three years of experience in Athletic Event and Facility Operations including game day operations.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Ability to pass a motor vehicle background check.
What You Will Need
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational ability and a strict attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to closely work with diverse teams of people to accomplish complex tasks and initiatives, on schedule and on budget.
  • Willingness to work beyond a 40-hour/week schedule to manage events that may be scheduled on evenings, weekends or holidays.
  • Computer skills.

What We Would Like You To Have
  • Five years experience planning and managing collegiate athletic game day and other events.
  • Past supervisory experience of full-time staff.
  • Experience managing agreements and contracts.
  • Experience supervising supplemental staffing needs.
  • 1-2 years of experience running a multipurpose athletic arena or large athletic venue.
  • Experience with capital projects.
